"Sex sells, but so does crack that doesn't make it right"-Quoted from a documentary
You think that sex is being over used by the media and our culture today?
Discussion Points: 1. Is sex being over used by the media? 2. Is this being degrading on people about their body image or how they feel about themselves? 3. Do you ever think there will stop being an emphasis on sex in commercials and ads... 4. Do you think children want to experiment with sex at earlier ages from what they see on TV? *Note* Not my opinions just discussion points.
Sex has always been the way to sell something, and it will probably never stop. Poeple are attracted to beautiful persons, wants to be like them, and be adored like them. Very little are actually able to reach their goals, but the dream is still there. That is why even "normal" models are good looking. They might not be super slim, but they still appel to us. But no, since sex is all over, everyone is a little use to it, including children. I think it is more part of the culture the younglings have, than commercials and the like that even preteens have sex and drink and all that..

There are parents and people that seem to blame the media for all their problems...like let's say, for example a group of parents got together to sue Nickelodeon because Nick advertised a commercial for cereal before or during a Sponge Bob episode because they didn't want to their children to be fat... or sue McDonald's because you eat their products 4 times a day or something.
I wrote a series of papers on this earlier this year. There's a lot that you wouldn't think would go on. I don't have time to go into detail right now, but I'll refresh my memory by reading through the papers later.
Yes. Medias have a huge control over us, but also there is the little thing called "free will". There is a reason that people get fat from eating MacD food. Because they are too darn lazy to make proper food themselves. If the parents do not have enough resistance in themselves to tell the children that they have to eat something else for breakfast than that cereal, then they are not that good parents, and they too are to blame. The medias could cut out all commercials, but then most channels would die from lack of money.
Yea i think its good, but always use a condom. When those types of people sell it they dont give it in front of kids the give them to alduts when the kids arent there

I was just going to make a topic on that... but yeah you're right. I think parents need to teach their OWN kids about values and stop leaving them to a TV, so the TV can be their parent.

I have heard a term called "selective blindness", where the parents are ignorant to the problems the children have. They do not see that their son is getting fat(ter), even though doctors tell them so.
On topic: Whatever the advertisement people want to use, I guess. I do not watch commercials that often anyway, as I do not have any money. Only grocery commercials, because there might be something I could pay, thus haveing something to eat.
Personally i dont think tv is that big of a vice. If I was able to grow up without tv brainwashing me, my children can too, thats the way i see it.
I think there has to be a limit, like tampon and pad commercials I HATEthose That's true about the brainwashing also I didn't either, but people are believing whatever they see on TV it seems so I think there should be someone there to explain that, that's not what something is all about.
