It wasn't exactly a revolution. A revolution implies that the power shifts in an extreme way, i.e. the Bolshevik revolution in Russia, the French Revolution, etc.

Basically, the rich people stayed rich, and we had our own government. The American Revolution could be considered a revolt at best, if you're going to go into technical terms.

but by power shifting in an extreme way is an opinion

having our own government w/o restrictions from england is an extreme power shift in my book

I consider it an extreme shift in power as well, for the British were no longer ultimately in charge and a whole new government(and independent country) was formed, well eventually it was at least =P

Not really. Like I said, the leaders stayed leaders. Ask any history teacher or historian and they will tell you the same.

America likes to think they had a revolution, but it was just a rebellion.

Revolution - an overthrow or repudiation and the thorough replacement of an established government or political system by the people governed.

No government was replaced.
It was a rebellion in which they became free to create their own government.

That's why it was revolutionary. We separated ourselves from the oppression of England. Without that rebellion, we probably would still be under their control.

It was revolutionary because it was a rebellion?

Lol, the situation does not fit under the term "revolution". By that standards, any war is a revolution.

It was revolutionary because it marked the founding of the first modern democracy. =)

thorough replacement is another opinion! you cannot fight whether this was or not because it is all based on opinions!

When a country has a revolution, it means that there will be a switch in power. Like the British that controled America, back with the 13 colonies. The colonists didn't want to be ruled by England, so they revolted and seized power for them selves.

It wasn't a communist revolution, and people revolted in order to make/keep their money. So it depends on your definition.
