Revolution 1.an overthrow or repudiation and the thorough replacement of an established government or political system by the people governed.
Rebellion 1.open, organized, and armed resistance to one's government or ruler.
yes, at first it was a rebellion but once we actually overthrew the government in the colonies and set up our own it became a revolution at least according to those definitions
anyways i think it was revolutionary because it showed that a bunch of ragtag bums could take out a world power
Well, we revolted against the british, "No taxation without representation"
At first, we just wanted representation. Then, it seemed as if the king was drinking too much tea so he decided to bully us around with COMMUNISTS! also known as redcoats. These COMMUNISTS shot and killed MILLIONS of people. By millions I mean dozens.
FlagDelete It wasn't exactly a revolution. A revolution implies that the power shifts in an extreme way, i.e. the Bolshevik revolution in Russia, the French Revolution, etc. Basically, the rich people stayed rich, and we had our own government. The American Revolution could be considered a revolt at best, if you're going to go into technical terms.
Couldn't have said it better myself.
It was hardly a Revolution. The power may have shifted hands but the way of life for Americans barely changed at all. The American Cival War, now that was a true revolution!
Now, just because the Revolutionary War was hardly revolutionary at all, it doesn't mean that it wasn't important. Many other countries who would fight to break free from other government's hold would study the American Revolutionary War and see why we, a poor country with no true battle experiance, was able to defeat the power hosue Britain.
According to my history teacher, British Tea was actually cheaper than American tea (what bloody lies they told us in gradeschool) and those who participated in the Boston Tea Party were actually exiled from Boston by not the British, but the Americans! We call them hero's now, but really they were seen as brutes. America didn't revolt, only a few people. America payed for all the tea lost.
