Prologue
The young doctor bowed his head slightly to the cabby as he got off, and started whistling as he walked up the driveway to his mansion. The black briefcase in his right hand was rather heavy, containing all his doctor's equipment. He'd been doing a lot more work, ever since the Second World War started. On the side,J. Johnson, M.D. was engraved. He put his hand on the gold doorknob. Then, two shots rang out, originating from inside the house.
Chapter 1
Danny Alderman chucked the wadded up ball of paper to the boy in the upper right corner desk, who caught it and shot it into the wastebasket. Tommy Sherman grinned at Danny, but the teacher glared. Danny rolled his eyes. Melinda Kidner quietly kept score as the Ben/Frank team scored too. Jimmy wadded another paper ball and passed it to Danny. The teacher blew her ultra loud, high pitched whistle and everybody froze and stopped talking. The silence was preserved for about five seconds. Then everything resumed.
"You know, wasteball is very fun. It helps pass the time," Tommy said after school, nodding sagely.
"And it's also very distracting," snapped Ivy Roman.
"Yeah, yeah. That's just what you think. But everybody else isn't watching that sideshow," said Jimmy
"What, you mean the real reason we're at school? Supposedly the only reason we're at school?" said Ivy.
"Whatever. You're just a teacher's pet," said Danny. Tommy shot him a Look: Be nice, it said.
"I can be as cool as any of you can!" exclaimed Ivy, throwing her heavy math book at Danny, who ducked it.
"Cool kids aren't chicken," Danny said, as if that settled it.
"I'm not chicken!" shouted Ivy
"Right...okay then. You'll have your chance. Party tomorrow night," Tommy said, cutting off Danny, who shot him a Look: What are you DOING? it asked.
"Parties? Is that what you call scary?" Ivy said sarcastically.
"It's at that old mansion, up on the hill," said Jimmy, dramatically delivering the punch line.
"I will be there," Ivy said.
"So will about twenty other people," Danny said, "You better."
Chapter 2
Ivy's hands trembled slightly as she walked up the dark hill. Branches snapped, and Ivy froze. But then all was silent. It was a new moon tonight, and Ivy could hardly see anything at all, despite the powerful flashlight in her left hand. It was almost as if something was making it darker out. Then, it began to rain. Just sprinkles. Then, all of a sudden, it was a downpour. Not caring about the shadows, just about getting out of the icy cold rain that hailed down like baseballs, Ivy bolted up the hill. Then, after what seemed an eternity, she reached the house. Soaked head to toe and freezing cold, Ivy was met with nothing but silence and darkness. She shook. Wasn't everybody else supposed to be here? She took a step forward, eliciting a CREEEEAK from the old floorboards, then several things jumped out at you, making a terrible cacophony of moans, screechs, shouts, and wails. Ivy grabbed the doorknob and shook it. Nothing. Then laughter. Then, the lights turned on. Ivy slowly turned around, sure she was about to die. Danny, Tommy, Jimmy, Rosie, Franklin, Benjamin, Lola, Sherry, and Connor roared with laughter. Ivy realized that they were the ghosts
