President Obama told congressional leaders Thursday he's planning to pull all combat troops out of Iraq by August 2010, which falls short of his campaign promise to bring all combat forces home within 16 months, so its a good 19 months from his inaugeration date.

What do you have to say on this topic?

Nothing like repeating a perfectly good Armistice Day, I always say. And they would pull out on
my birthday, too! How sweet would that be!? Troops get pulled out because you were born! ^_^

We probably will stay there, but not for war reasons, just there for economical and urban support.
Think of it as how we are in Germany and Japan now, and think of that in Iraq in the later future.

I agree with you. Probably, there will be troops there but they will not be fighting.

I want to see them withdraw a month earlier. It would be epic if they left on 11/11/11.

11/11/11, how awkward.

1. Many Americans WANT that to happen.
2. Iraq may be weak as of now, and definitely needs assistance but the Iraqis want the Americans to go away.
3. The war has already passed it's climax and Osama Bin Laden still is wanted.
4. Many people, aside from Americans themselves are protesting the war.

Did anyone else notice it was Bush who agreed to have the troops out by June 2011? Then Obama extended it by 6 more months?

I think Obama is a typical example of a new president. Making promises in the election, that are, in actual fact, much harder to keep when in office. Look at Guantanamo, he suspended the trials, but it does not look like it is going to close completely any time soon.

we still have troops in Germany and Japan because of WWII. WWII ended 64 years ago and we still have troops stationed there.

Don't forget that many of the US troops stationed in Germany were there to act as a buffer against communism, not nescessarily because of WW2.

Well Obama is getting troops out of Iraq, thats a good thing. Then he's going to put them in Afghanistan, not a good thing. He put 17,000 troops in Afghanistan in his first 100 days in office. Even Bush didn't manage to do that. But it's a good thing that America is pulling out, for its peoples' sake and its image's sake. But there are US troops every where! Japan, Iraq, Afghanistan, Taiwan ( I think), Vietnam in the past etc.

Actually, Obama went back on his promises but its actually quite hard to stick to them.

Ha, I believe that he is lying. I think that we will have troops in Iraq until we officially force them to surrender. We will do that by killing as many people we can and not letting have basic human rights. Typically turning them into tortured slaves until they surrender.

Uh mate, if you didn't notice Iraq surrendered during bush's presidency, they even had some kind of election for a president of some sort. The only reason why we haven't come out is because of insurgents... and radical muslim terrorists.

Obama is not lying, because he has to increase the troop count to draw the troops out... because that will raise the %chance of more people coming back alive.

DDX--
Iraq has not surrendered because they are still fighting. Have you not heard the news, there are still terrorists blowing stuff up because they don't have it their way. They are mad about the U.S "taking over" their land. So, in retaliation, they are fighting back. Until the war actually stops, then I will listen. But until that time comes, I think the soldiers will be in Iraq for a long time.
