Hitler killed people to exterminate them because they weren't humans etc. In the Great Puges stalin (on some level) may have actually believed he was killing people who were conspiring against him. It's something like he killed some of his leading Army oficers because he thought they were plotting with the Nazi's (I believevt he army had been working with Nazi's on something though I can't remember what)
@Pixie, very good, you must at the head of your class in history. It always seems that you have logical, well thought out answers.
It is true that Stalin did in fact kill people on a pure basis that he thought they were plotting against him. Many wanted to overthrow him, as he was killing them in great numbers.
I have been reading about his actions against the church. Obviously communism is atheist but Lenin tolerated the churches. Then stalin tried to close them down and attacked them. In 1941 he encouraged religion to boost moral for the troops. After WWII he went back to persecuting them.
Yes but I wanted to know what you thought. Also I think most of the other posts would concur he wasn't a good politician. A good leader maybe but "olitics" (?) like I say any examples. (of your own).
Stalin is an example of a communist killing another communist for the sake of his own version of communism.
He did boost the economy without any private enterprise which is a good thing that Lenin was seemingly unable to do...but then again Lenin wasn't at all has opressive as Stalin, even with his own war-communism.
Again, he did not lead the troops. In fact, when Germany attacked, he hid in his office for days. He was so inept when it came to war.
I have posted already on what I think about him. He was a killer. But his industrialization plans brought down Fascism. Do the costs outweigh the benefits? I don't know...
huh, well then i guess it wouldnt had of been called WW2 if two countries would had of stuck to themselves. Also if Britian and France didnt get help from america, europe would have been taken over.
His rise to power and early life as a fund raiser for the Bolshevik party showed his political skills. Especially since Trotsky was the clear favourite after Lenin's death.
In fact, when Germany attacked, he hid in his office for days.
When the generals came to inform him of war, he was hiding under his desk, because he believed it was a military coup. I wonder what effect that would have had on the course of history.
