That's all fine and dandy for those that don't know, but look at their comments. Half of them were replied to by ulimitedpower, and he knew that they were ghost accounts. Again, I'm calling spam on him.
Actually I only replied to about 5 of them. And as I think back on it, I hit myself for writing them, because they do count as spam. But don't say it like I'm a spammer, because of one of the things I'm not, it's a spammer. I take that as insult.
@Unlimited Power: Finding these accounts is one thing, but replying on them is another. Kind of
hypocritical, isn't it? Going out of your way to find ghost accounts because people spam in it?
Again, what's the point of commenting there, when you know darn well they are inactive?
Sorry, are you happy now? A mod might want to delete them if they seem to be causing you so much stress by looking at them.
there's more than 100k ghost accounts, good luck finding them all on your own
Some day we'll devise a system that will manage to find them.
Simple answer: spam. People want AP so they go around to profiles noone knows of to spam there and never get reported.
Or they create a profile to reduce the chances of being caught even more.
The idea sounds good, but there's noone to watch them about. You could recruit another mod but every extra mod you recruit increases chance of a corrupt mod. And I think the mods do good work. You could also make a few guys "watchers" who check those accounts, but this would only result into more reports to mods so they have even more work. No can do.
If I were given the honor of becoming a mod, I would have to be a moron to be bad. you'd be banned immediately, firstly, and becoming a mod is so hard, why ruin it in a few minutes?
AG could set up a new group, maybe called Wtchers, as healmeal said, and give them the power to investigate and eventually delete ghost accounts.
I had that idea on Kongregate, but called the idea mini-mods.
I think there might be a solution. AG could set up a new group, maybe called Wtchers, as healmeal said, and give them the power to investigate and eventually delete ghost accounts. It could work if you gave them less power than mods, like make it so that two or three have to agree upon it for an account to be deleted. There could even be a special forum for one watcher to report a ghost account, and then the other watchers could check it out and agrre to delete it. That way, we get rid of ghost accounts, don't put on a ton of extra stress on the mods, and don't risk one rogue watcher deleting a bunch of legitimate players accounts.
I like what you're saying. It would be great fun to do it.
but then a group of people not liking someone would just delete their account they worked hard on
But you could only not like a person who has been active. And that means the person isn't a ghost account, right? I consider ghost accounts the ones that have never been used, and not one where the user plays a bit and then leaves.
Then you could not completely delete the account when the process has been completed; store a residual file of it on the site. Then, a person who's real account had been deleted could appeal to a mod, who would restore it and ban or demote the offending Watchers.
Or do what I just said. A ghost account won't have anything on it, so it would be simple to delete it permanently.
Not all account there were Ghost accounts. Some did have some AP...
Only 2 AP max. I found this very strange because who would write one comment and then leave? Very suspicious. It's like it's supposed to lead us off the scent...
Wow, I'm honored to think that the person ranked number 2 thinks I had a great idea. Hopefully a mod will see this page and think about it.
Lesson #1: It doesn't matter in threads who is highest rank (although they have a great influence over it) but rather majority or the most logical argument. And yes, I hope a mod sees this.
