I would like to ask if it could be possible to get a sticky in the tavern to announce contests in the art section, probably in the tavrn as well, though those are almost nonexistant. The reason is the lag of knowledge about the contests running atm, as well as to get recruits in time for what should get up and running in a couple of months*. It would be rather nice, this, at it would make the contests somewhat organized, and will make people aware of the different choices, the themes, techniques and deadlines. So, yeah, just wondering.
Its a great idea though it would be cool to have an Announcement Board but there is a news section.
The news section cannot be used for the purpose of this (contest announcements), because every time we should get something new up, we would have to ask Carlie, and most users ignore the news section, which would make it rather fail.

KR and I talked about it in the pokemon paint contest some weeks ago, but since there was nothing done, well, just trying again.
It could be useful I suppose I didn't realise it was an issue to be honest. Then again if it was there I would use it. Good idea.
Not as much an issue as we just want people to know about this. Some contests does not have a permanent deadline day (like after a week, or a month), because they have so few contestants that they have to wait for more entries before they get to the judging. There is the slight problem with delayed judgings as well, so a place to put up the info about the new round would be great. Some people might think one topic is too hard and then never return to the contest, even though the next topic is better, because they forget, or they do not know when the contest starts.
And then there is the MWT. Even two, three months after I began it, people were asking if they could join, because they did not know about it; I gave them a good time to see it (and it does have a sticky as well). This would give people a chance to know about this before it is too late, especially since it seemed to be rather popular (I am not one to judge that).

I suppose your right on that, maybe you should just make an announcement topic in The Tavern and ask a mod to sticky it?
It is pretty much what I am doing now. I ask if it could be a possibility, even if it single a group out to have something other do not have. Also because the mods would probably have to talk this over, and it would be rather nice to have them make the topic, because I would know someone would be monitoring it then. Or else I would have to be minimoding all over the thread, because people cannot think for themselves, and post offtopic, pointless posts about how that contest is cool, or post random contests without any real information or want to continue it. Ex: "Who can score the highes on *game*, post results on my profile". This would be alright, but as it is, it would be a one time thing, and somewhat pointless to point out, if they are not going to be serious about it, or have the responsibility to make it run properly.
This idea has always been good, although I do debate over whether an 'announcement' thread or a small strip of text underneath Community is what would be 'better' o_O
Or perhaps both, the little announcment could have a link somewhere in there and it would take you to the thread...so people would pay more attention to these things.
Suggestion as to how this could easily work: Locked sticky in the Tavern, titled something like "Current Forum Contests", OP explaining what the thread is for, but not mentioning any of the contests. OP then followed by a post containing links and theme/purpose descriptions for each of the relevant contests.
Once some or all of that info is outdated, the post is deleted and replaced with an updated version, and then the thread gets locked again.
The info that should be included in the post should be posted on a mods profile whenever it is relevant to update.
I could see this working and being useful, but I'm not gonna do it without admin approval.
The way I see it, the actual news/blogs are for Armorgames in general. This new announcements section in the forums, or the sticky of it in the Tavern would be for the community only. I could see this happening ; after all, most of us, like Cenere said, had no idea when the new competitions in the art section was updated, and were confused.

Yup. At some point I find it somewhat stupid for the thread to be a locked one because it would mean it would have to be deleted and updated a lot by moderators that really do not care. I only ask for a monitoring of said thread, so it can be kept serious. And that it is stickifyed, because if it leaves the first page, it is not doing its job, but on the other hand it will not do it either, if people have to keep posting in it to keep it on the front page. It does not have to be deleted, as long as the the different competitions and the people updating them remember to write the date of the update, so people do not end up confused. That way it is possible to keep a record of competitions as well, which our archieve holder might be happy about.
If you would like to make an updated version of any of the stickies, or want to make one making general announcements for a particular forum, feel free to do so. If you put an announcement together for the Art forum for instance, I would be happy to sticky it for you! =)
Ok, sounds good! =) Stickied threads do not always have to be made by moderators, and if anyone wants to make updates versions of any of the stickies, or try to make new ones, that is definitely an option. We just don't do it often, because there are only so few of us and we don't have a whole lot of extra time. Which is why things end up getting outdated.
