I wouldn't say atheism isn't a religion. It just doesn't come with a huge history about a god and the miracles of the past, since it centers around no god. But I'd still consider it a religion.
Moegreche: I wanted to say that even though it's a contradiction, atheism has the principals of a belief, which is basically what a religion is, only with a history as to where it all began. Since atheism doesn't have that, it seems a little out of place, but still it has those chracteristics. Also wanted to add no offense taken. You're trying to prove a point on a forum about religion.
WHEN GOD PUT US HERE HE WANTED US TO BUILD HIS "HOME"(HIS CHURCH)
ANYONE KNOW THE STORY OF THE SAINT THAT REBUILD THE CHURCH BECAUSE GOD TOLD HIM TO FIX HIS "HOME"? WHEN HE WAS DONE FIXING THE CHURCH HE PRAYED TO HIM AND GOD JUST SAID TO FIX HIS HOME AGAIN AND THATS WHEN HE FOUND OUT THAT GOD WANTED HIM TO BRING OTHERS INTO WORSHIPPING HIM
To me, religion is just a giant, steaming conglomerate of blind crazies following a book whose original text is no longer recognizable, justifying prejeduce and hate with thier "god" and basing their faith on lies, fear, and manipulation. religion has no place in modern science or politics, and should be erradicated from said fields. leave your lies and hate in your temples and churches, and STOP SHOWING UP AT MY FRONT DOOR ASKING ME IF I'D HEARD THE GOOD NEWS!!!!

Not all religious people do that. I don't like them running up to my door either, but calm down.

Jesus offered forgiveness. Maybe he was lying and manipulating... not sure if anyone was afraid of being forgiven...

If you mean opposition to embryonic stem cell research, that's morality, not just religion. If you mean politics, the media literally goes out of its way to make certain you aren't too religious or you're actually hated for that even by your own religion! So believe me, the balance we've struck is just fine.

yes, i am aware of that. i was just making an example. what im trying to say is that christianity seems to be the religion most intent on shoving itself down your throat. for example, hindus do not have missionaries. they allow people to find hinduism on their own. with christians, on the other hand, i have to repeatedly turn away scores of arrogant, homophobic mormons year after year. i was raised catholic, and i once politely told my pastor that i did not believe in god any more. he told me i would go to hell. i have asked the same question of several other people, and i have gotten the same answer. i then spent the next two years studying christianity and christians and i came to the same conclusion that ghandi. in his words: "i like your christianity, but i do not like your christians. they are so unlike your christ."

yes, yes JESUS preached love and forgiveness, but what about those preachers that are actually alive? what about people like rush limbaugh and bill o'rielly and sean hannity that just spew hate and bitter, bitter anger for millions of people to see. what about the pastors that convince their congregation that they will be condemned to an eternity of torture and pain if they dont follow the giant security camera in the sky. if you take a step back and look at christianity not as a religion....but look at it as a club or something, it just seems crazy.

no, i do not mean embryonic stem cell research when i say science, i mean SCIENCE when i say science. same with politics. religion is seperated from modern science and the reniassance by over a thousand years. there is NO way that religion is preaching science, and thus has no business in it. remember copernicus? he figured out that the earth was NOT the center of the universe. and the church threatened to kill him. galileo was imprisoned in his own house for the last years of his life because of his work in astronomy. religion has been wrong about creation of the universe, biogenisis, slavery, segregation, evolution, and homosexuality. it's being backed into a corner, and holding on by the skin of it's teeth to the last arguable subjects that science has not proven religion to be unquestionly wrong about.

Well this might cheer you up a little. You aren't going to Hell unless your works are evil. Belief in God is all about persepctive, and it wouldn't be fair if some people had a more broad understanding than others. So (if God is real, that is) you aren't condemned to Hell by losing faith in him.

Sort of, but these were moral failures. If you have a disagreement with the Church, that's quite different than having a disagreement with God. However, you said you didn't believe in God anymore so I'm assuming it's a little of both.

I thought you meant more recent science. If you mean it's been wrong in the past, I could give explanations as to why on all of them. Big Bang: Not proven yet, but assuming it was, Christians believed that God did 7 days, but there is another creation story in the Bible, gets confusing sometimes. Slavery: Was not mentioned as an issue in the Bible, only mentioned Evolution: They thought God created human beings first, evolution says we evolved this way, I think that God created humans with a history of evolution so that it would make scientific sense. So it's really got a lot of sides to it. Homosexuality: There's no definite right or wrong here outside of religion, is there?
