Now, there was a recent survey. It went to many kindergarten classes at the beginning of the year and asked questions like:
How many of you can sing?
How many of you can dance?
How many of you can draw?
And if they could, they raised their hand. In Kindergarten, nearly everyone raised their hand.
They went to universities.
They asked the same questions they asked the Kindergardeners.
Almost nobody raised their hand.
Is "Education" teaching us what we can't do?

I don't think it's education, it's just people learning about how society works. If you asked me if I could sng, I would say no, because I think of it as a question of whether or not I can sing well.

If you ask kindergarteners however, they see the question differently. They see it as whether or not they are physically able to sing. if those kindergarteners dropped out of school now, I bet that in 20 years they would give very similar answers to the answers of the current college students.

Well, the school teaches them things right?
So they are teaching the people that they can't do it.
Kudos Lain, that is good, but I still stand by my point

School never taught me nothing! xD

Hmm I bet thats because you didn't pay attention. If that were true nerdius then that would only be because school is teaching people how to be realistic.Anyone who wants to have a job in Engineering will learn that School teaches them what they can do,and will do in the future.

they teach us a wide variety of things so we can operate in society and have big choices in jobs

like lain said it's not what we can't do it's what we won't do well

how would teaching not bring someone to do something well? if it doesn't then i wouldn't call it teaching, i think what you're trying to say is why aren't there more classes in school...simple try finding another school

No, but through the school process, it lowers your self-esteem, it tells you, "You can't do this". That is not right. School needs to give positive reinforcement, and kids need to have more self-esteem. Does anyone agree with the topic name?
PS- I don't agree with the topic, I thought it would be an interesting discussion. The reason I wanted to support the topic, is I made it, so I should support it.

it tells you, "You can't do this"

the only time i've seen that is in a prerequesite class needed to be taken, or for you to be at a higher grade

so that teaches you patience and enthusiasm/effort

kids need to have more self-esteem.
that's dependant on which social group the kids themselves hang out with

How many kids in your school go to school with a very high self-esteem huh? Not as many as there should be. Also, the kids who sit there and don't care are getting worse off, as I know teachers who tell kids in normal classes that they aren't good enough, not just in prerequesite classes. These may not be good teachers, but they were hired by people working in education, and it is their fault for not staffing well.

I know teachers who tell kids in normal classes that they aren't good enough
i've never had a teacher say "You're not good enough!!!" in any of my schoolyears

so i guess all i can say is: sucks for you

So, its life, and yeah, I guess it dose suck for me. And you are lucky man. If you sit there and don't care, then how are you able to make me have a hard time defending this position? Also, if you did go to a school like mine, would you say school taught us what we can't do?

i also believe school is partly there to teach past mistakes so that they aren't recommited in the future, you know STD's Depression etc.
