This may be border, but I noticed that there was a thread about phillias, and other fetishes, so I think this should qualify.

Well, Hermaphrodites (for who that do not know) are people with both sexual organs. It's a birth defect, and It's most likely genetic (I do not totally know), where, as said, you have both a "man part" and a "woman part". Normally, one organ is larger than the other, and ones just kinda ... tiny. I, personally, feel kinda bad for them. It must be really awkward to have both, right? I mean, even if your mate is OK with it, it must be hard to find one that's not phased by it, and when it comes to your first time it'd kinda have to be for someone that loves you for who you are, right (besides a most likely existent fetish)?
So what are your thoughts about them?

But what I want to know is what causes it? I'm seriously too lazy to put in as much effort as you XD

I do know that it's a birth defect, most likely a genetic mutation and then it became genetic.

To put it technically (and simply), all forms of hermaphroditism stem from a mutational defect of embryogenesis. Particularly to do with anti-Mullerian hormone, the hormone that signals sexual differentiation from female to male (at about 8 weeks, if I recall correctly). Before then there is a single urogenital tract and bud.

True hemaphroditism is much rarer than intermediate forms in which the process of sexual differentiation or some aspect of it has either misfired or gone off the rails. It would be worth remembering that different "sexual characteristics" are not always strongly indicative of one's sex.

Your wikipedia reading is here.

I would also feel bad for them. Most people would probably laugh at them or avoid them just because they have a problem. Everyone is not perfect and this is just something some people have to deal with in life.

The most common story one would have of this nature is the guy who goes to a club, gets drunk and dances with a girl, then they leave the club and do *various things* and in the midst of those *various things* the girl turns out to have a bit of both, if you know what I mean.

It is confronting for all involved.

I feel bad for them. How does it affect them? Hormone levels? Estrogen or testosterone. Do they take operations?

I heard of Hermafrodites before, and it is really akward. Off course some poeple will have this sickness, and they are feeling really bad about it but;
will you call the Hermafrodite mister or madame?
Do they have nuts?
How much people have got the genetic mutation?

Iff i knew someone who was a Hermofrodite i shouldn't know hiw to speak to him, because i would see him like something odd.

I'm almost positive that it's impossible to be genetic because niether parts work. Also, my biology teacher knew somebody who's "Daughter" had something like that not as extreme though. Anyway, he was saying the doctor said that a sex is picked at birth depending on which gender looks more dominant in the child and then either oestrigen or testosterone pills are given to the child. Then when seen fit an operation is done.

That's how we roll in Australia anyway.

How does that make it impossibe for it to be genetic. Their are probably several causes for different forms of it though. The choosong the sex at birth is common in most places under the circumstances I think. As long as they pick right of course. I'm not sure how much personality is nature or nuture but if the doctors get it wrong and make a child with a girls mind a boy based on looks it would have terrible ramifications later on.

I agree, there's nothing wrong about being a hermaphordite. It's just because certain genes during development turn on different receptors and tell them to start growing and they make production of testosterone for growing you know what, and the fetus is a girl. Meaning the girl would be born with either large girl parts, and have a small guy trait down there.

It's perfectly natural, but many feel it's not right for the parent's to choose the sex, as the child is not given any input on the matter.

Most people who are hermaphrodites suffer from mood swings, and deppression, as they had either estrogen and testosterone flowing through them at a young age and now it's gone.

Surgery is now done right after birth to remove or seal any of the opposite sexs organs.

As Fritz said, it is very common for parents to decide immediately after birth whther they want a boy or girl. The offending organs are removed, and unti puberty, they're basically normal. Then, child has to take supplements of either estrogen or testosterone, depending on whther their parents chose to make them a boy or girl, and surpressants of the opposite hormone. If it works properly, the person can grow up to be mostly normal.

I say it doesn't matter. One thing I noticed is that the word "hermaphrodite" is a portmanteau of two Greek deities, Hermes and Aphrodite. Kind of morbidly fascinating.
