I finally decided to start trying to use GIMP, and my first probably (i feel retarded) is i can't figure out how to change the color. I have tried everything as far as i can figure out, and it still stayed the same.

The only way that did work opening up an image with the color i wanted, and then selecting the color with the color select tool from that image and then my brush changed color on the blank canvas.

I was just wondering there was a button or something so that way i don't have to open another image to get the color i want.

There's probably some sort of free-form select tool or a lasso tool that you can use to select something, then use a paint bucket. Or, there probably is a magic wand tool that would select the object, then you could use some sot of paint bucket tool. . .I use Photoshop, but GIMP is similar. . . . (or so I've heard. . .)

So you've tried clicking on the color box (The black and white rectangles are default) and changed the color but it remains the same?

And you haven't changed any of the settings? What does it say in the title of the window?

Where it says *Untitled-#.0 blahblahblah.

Alright, either I misunderstood something or wasn't as clear as I should've been.

You click the black rectangle under all the GIMP tools and a "Change Foreground Color" window pops up. (The tabs above in the "Change Foreground Color" indicate the different ways to select a color.) Choose your color and hit okay. But it wouldn't change?

Is what I should have said. If that's the case, I haven't a clue what could be wrong since default settings weren't changed.

First of all, make sure GIMP is not sleeping. If it is... Then I guess you'll just have to wake it up, won't you?

Kudos to whoever gets the joke.

It is a program similar to fireworks (although fireworks is soo much better).

GIMP: GNU Image Manipulation Program.

Er... No.

It's actually similar to PS, but PS is loads better.

Example: GIMP: http://the0spoon.deviantart.com/art/Halo-sig-114763561

Not very good, I know, but my GIMPing skills aren't the best. Go to www.gimptalk.org / .com and look at some of their stuff.

Then again, I've never used fireworks, so I can't vouch for/agianst it.
