It really is true, I'm here to spread the PLASTIC BAG AWARENESS towards my fellow AGers. Zophia showed me this link through a lovely program called "Stumble" which pops random (PG) sites onto the page, and Zophia came upon THIS.

Now, if you care about our earth, not just nations but our EARTH as much as I do, you'll spread the word, and hopefully use a cloth bag, or at least a paper one, which can be harmlessly burned in your fireplace. I had never known how extreme this was, and just how much wildlife and natural beauty it destroyed.

Please, spread the word, use cloth or paper today.

Paper bags?

Plastic in general is a pretty bad thing to fill nature up with. Darn hard to get it back out of the system, and as that thing Thoad linked to (and many others) say, the process of the plastic disappearing on its own is slow and polluting...

Also:

In 1937, Dupont patented the processes to make plastics from oil and coal. Dupont's Annual Report urged stockholders to invest in its new petrochemical division. Synthetics such as plastics, cellophane, celluloid, methanol, nylon, rayon, Dacron, etc., could now be made from oil. Natural hemp industrialization would have ruined over 80% of Dupont's business.

Source.

According to that, plastic doesn't have to be made from oil, but it is. Eck.

Oh and you would be doing much better if you didn't buy as much, instead of buying a "green" products thinking that your saving the Earth.

Paper bags?
Issues with trees on that one, though. *refers again to source above, mumbling something about hemp fibers being used for paper production instead of trees*

*annoying quoting now*
Hemp has a higher quality fiber than wood fiber. Far fewer caustic chemicals are required to make paper from hemp than from trees. Hemp paper does not turn yellow and is very durable. The plant grows quickly to maturity in a season where trees take a lifetime.

ALL PLASTIC PRODUCTS SHOULD BE MADE FROM HEMP SEED OIL. Hempen plastics are biodegradable! Over time, they would break down and not harm the environment. Oil-based plastics, the ones we are very familiar with, help ruin nature; they do not break down and will do great harm in the future. The process to produce the vast array of natural (hempen) plastics will not ruin the rivers as Dupont and other petrochemical companies have done. Ecology does not fit in with the plans of the Oil Industry and the political machine. Hemp products are safe and natural.

Non-drug uses of hemp. Yay.

Oh and you would be doing much better if you didn't buy as much, instead of buying a "green" products thinking that your saving the Earth.
Very true. But even small things count when done on a large enough scale. And seriously, cloth bags are nicer anyway. Don't tear as easily.

Grocery stores are now selling cloth bags so you can use them over and over again. I do the groceries for my family so I have stocked up on these "save our earth" & "I'm not a plastic bag bags". XD

Good, because it's very hard to do all this with the plastic bags, and please, if you are a plastic bag user. Don't throw them out the window! I see people do this all the time.

I wasn't really talking about the paper bags. Of course were all going to have to use it. But on a similar topic, I'm annoyed by companies advertising their products as being green when they are wastes themselves. If I saw one of the commercials recently I would give an example. Haven't been watching much TV...

oh yeah! The Mac commercial. Supposedly you would be helping the Earth by buying one because its battery life is longer, so they have to produce less...
But really there are worse ones where you have completely junky products.

Similarity I hate when rich companies advertise themselves as not feeding the fat cats on Wall street and "bailing the hard workers on Main street". Its just lol

"Don't throw them out the window! I see people do this all the time."

God my family keeps all of ours. We even have a little storage under the sink where we keep all the bags for later use.

I wasn't responding as if you were. The last sentence was just sort of an add-on.

I prefer to bring my own clothe bag and reuse it. Everyone has huge posts on this topic but me.

Annything I can do to piss off enviromentalists, I will do gladly. And I dont handwash anything, because if you look at the tag it says *Handwash Only*. No, soory not goin' to happen. Enviromentalists are destroying American values. But I'm by nature paranoid.

EXACTLY!
It was some pretty nifty animation, though.

Uh, when something says handwash only it's usually because there's a chance it'll get ruined in a machine wash. I've lost a perfectly good sweater that way. Not saying it'll happen every time, but that's why some things are handwash only, not because the ones who made it wants to go green.

The American value? Waste waste waste?

Ya, basically.

If I weren't a mod, I'd probably flame you a bit... Instead, I shall merely notice your existence and view and more or less despise it.

Also, what does your paranoia have to do with this...?
