I'd say it depends on why the government turned on you. If the people got so out of control and crazy that the government had to take action, I'd side with the government. If the government was controlled by some crazies that wanted to change us into a dictatorship or something, then I'd side with the rebels.
Although, you're right, this is a democracy. It's very unlikely.
The Weimar Republic was a democracy. Shit happens, codified constitutions aren't nearly as strong as people make them out to be. Just look at Venezuela at the moment.
BUT if the government would turn on the people would you be one to rebel?
Well this is a tricky one. If the government had the armed forces on their side, even mass violent protest would be futile. Myself, I am not so sure. I am not the type to rebelagainst authority(or in this case power), but this being such a hypothetical situation it's difficult to say.

Unfortunately, most of the rebellions I've heard of wernt mass violent protests... They were all out war. Most countries don't have armies over 500,000 soldiers and sailors. In a very large country that has hundreds of millions of people, even a small uprising, say, 1% of the population would be very, very problematic.
