Depends on the situations and even if I did choose a side, I probably would stay behind the lines (even though there are other people who are dying for their cause[s])...

The only problem, in a democratic government like america, with a dictatorship or some crazy government like that is no one would back the person or persons trying to take over. Ever hear of checks and balances yeah if the president tried to control of the government he'd have to be backed by congress and the supreme court. Also, the military wouldn't hurt either and even then there's the citizens of America he'd have to convince. In conclusion, it's pretty much impossible with the design of the government and the views of American citizens.
If the government turned I am sure many soldiers would rebel and heavily reduce the power of the government. I myself will join the army as full time. And if a decent number of the group rebelled I would join them, but that's way off track.
I would personally rebel as a civilian but not with the bricks and clubs...
