Ok, so I want your guys' opinions. I want to take both chinese and japanese at the community college this summer break. My mother said I have to choose one and focus on it, but I really think she's underestimating my abilities.I'm thinking of just going behind her back and paying the tuition for the second class myself, if it is a problem with tuition, because I don't live with her over the summer anyway, but if I do have to choose betwwen those two classes, which do you think I should choose?

Also, the reason I had to ask my mother is because I am still a sophmore in HS.=]

Chinese. More people speak the language so therefore it is more likely to be beneficial to you in the long run.

Then again....Japanese girls are cuter. =D

japanese, Japan is a decent place to check out, but you really don't want to visit much of China right now.

They are to learn the language. I know I would enjoy Japanese more, and it would be easier to learn, but I predict that china is very soon about to be the new superpower of the world...so it would be more beneficial...it's pretty hard to choose though.

Japanese. Then, once you learn that you could learn Chinese. Though I would prefer Japanese.

I should say chinese which i'm close to being chinese. I'm Vietnamese. I speak Vietnamese and Chinese. Chinese is kind of easier than Japanese. Japanese stinks since i hate them. Pick Chinese.

Japanese people in society, in order to function perfectly, must also learn 1/3 of the Chinese
language, and vice-versa for the other. I could never get Chinese at all ; I barely know 1/8 of it.
An example, they have so many homonyms like in English, that it's hard to figure out just what the
guy is truly saying in conversation. I chose Japanese, just because it is much easier, by the words,
not the characters, and if you plan to live there, like we did, then you would choose Japan over
China too.

All up to you bud. Just saying, if you plan to take one of these languages, you would eventually
have to learn the other to fully grasp it.

I took Japanese ans its not easy. Especially with having to learn all the hiragana and other styles.

I'd take Japanese. Japan is amazing, so much... Brilliance!

Besides, Japan would be a better country to go to for fun so it would help to know their language.

I think next year I have the choice of French or Japanese. It's easy to tell French is easier, yet I may pick Japanese.

I wouls prefer Japanese on a purely leasure basis but, if peopple are to be believed, china will rule the wolrd in a decade and Chinese will be the dominant language. Personally I would go for Japanese because I like Hiro of heroes

Chinese, its my second language. Easy to start of, easy to memeorise. My friends who alos take chinese can't cope with japanese. Japanese has chinese characters but other weird swirly symbols. Plus, once you get the hang of parts of Chinese words such as a few strokes its pretty easy to decipher even words you never see before.

Zhong Guo Di Yi! Hua Ren Tai Bang le! ( China is the best. Us Chinese are too good XD) Nah I'm not from China, just a Singaporean Chinese. And AG won't let me type out the correct words!
