Ok, so I want your guys' opinions. I want to take both chinese and japanese at the community college this summer break. My mother said I have to choose one and focus on it, but I really think she's underestimating my abilities.I'm thinking of just going behind her back and paying the tuition for the second class myself, if it is a problem with tuition, because I don't live with her over the summer anyway, but if I do have to choose betwwen those two classes, which do you think I should choose?

Also, the reason I had to ask my mother is because I am still a sophmore in HS.=]

It's up to you, but if you want an opinion, I'd say Japanese. They're at the top of the world because of their cars right now.

All up to you bud. Just saying, if you plan to take one of these languages, you would eventually
have to learn the other to fully grasp it.

wow you are so full of BS kid. you dont need to learn any Japanese to grasp Chinese. There are 0 japanese characters in chinese.

Japanese, more traditonal, also, your more likely to run into someone speaking that, rather than mandarin.

You need to know about 3000 characters of Kanji to be able to talk in Japanese, so I don't think you should take both Chinese and Japanese. I'm an learning Japanese on my own, so I don't know much about Chinese. But I know they look similar in appearance, and think you should focus on only one language. I would choose Japanese

I would recommend Japanese. If you ever want a job in a foreign country, what better country to be in than the most technologically advanced country in the world?

We already have over a billion people who speak Chinese languages, but it wouldn't hurt to have a few more Japanese-speakers out there...

Japanese is a nice language. =) its words flow smoother than "chinese" A.K.A. Mandarin.
