ok topic is christianity in schools, im stuck in the middle of the bible belt so ever where you turn theres another church, thing is i go to school and its even there (im in 8th grade) and theres teachers teaching it. I personaly am an athiest (or however you spell it) and get upset about the teachers doing this, i have one teacher (language) thatll be talking about a book or something an say for examlpe: "ya we all know thats wrong to do that, it says so in the bible", and i try to get up and say " hey im not a christian or anything so can you please not mention that", and EVERYBODY gets mad, and i get sent to the office and have to talk to the counseler. What i really hate about it is that everybody says there a chirstian, even the hardcore "gangster" kids.what do you guys think about it?
Also im forced to go to church, i actuly just got back from church about an hour ago, do you guys think this is right that my parents force me to go?
I'm Christian, but I'm a Constitutionalist. The Constitution is VERY clear on separation of church and state. For this reason, Christianity MUST be kept out of public schools, AS MUST ALL RELIGIONS. That means you too, Pastafanarianists. You and the FSM don't belong there, either.
Just for kicks, do some research into just how many different denominations of Christianity there actually are. It's astounding, how a religion that is supposedly about love and forgiveness can't get along with anyone, not even themselves.
So which particular brand of that theology do you propose to teach in schools?
I see this topic got bad and off topic. So, I'm addressing the first post.
I also live in the Bible belt. It isn't easy, especially since I am g.ay. If you are posting on this site, then you are old enough to sit your parents down. But the key here is to convey the right attitude. Let them know that you are not comfortable attending church because you do not believe in the same things that they do. Even show them some books or articles that display your way of thinking to show them how you feel. The best thing to do is to never get defensive with them. Remain calm and make your points.
As for school, that is technically illegal and a bummer. Next time you go to your counselor explain to them that you are not a Christian and you are offended that those ways are being pushed on you. Let's say for argument sake that you are Agnostic. Tell your counselor that you would never push your ideals on to anyone else because it is rude and insensitive.
