ok topic is christianity in schools, im stuck in the middle of the bible belt so ever where you turn theres another church, thing is i go to school and its even there (im in 8th grade) and theres teachers teaching it. I personaly am an athiest (or however you spell it) and get upset about the teachers doing this, i have one teacher (language) thatll be talking about a book or something an say for examlpe: "ya we all know thats wrong to do that, it says so in the bible", and i try to get up and say " hey im not a christian or anything so can you please not mention that", and EVERYBODY gets mad, and i get sent to the office and have to talk to the counseler. What i really hate about it is that everybody says there a chirstian, even the hardcore "gangster" kids.what do you guys think about it?
Also im forced to go to church, i actuly just got back from church about an hour ago, do you guys think this is right that my parents force me to go?
I believe that Christianity, and every other religion (including Shintoism, which I am a follower of) should stay the heck out of our public schools. HOWEVER, I believe that religions should be allowed to make PRIVATE schools with their faith.
YES I CAN: IN THE BOOK OF ISAIH, HE SAYS THAT THE EARTH IS ROUND, SOMETHING THAT, IN THE TIME IT WAS WRITTEN, COULDNT HAVE BEEN POSSIBLY FIGURED OUT UNLESS HE WAS TOLD BY SOMEONE WHO HAD SEEN IT/ CREATED IT (GOD OF COURSE)
Just because he thought the earth was round, doesn't mean he KNEW it. He could have just guessed it. And yes, it WAS possible to figure that out. The Greeks actually determined that the earth was round. Early Hellenistic scientists knew it, using only mathematics to calculate the circumference. You don't NEED a space ship to find out the earth is round.
true but in the time the bible was written, they didnt have the technology to find it out, half of em couldnt even read. And evolution is pretty much 1 big lucky guess.
I never said I believed in evolution. Where did you get THAT out of this topic? (Although I DO believe in evolution, now that you mention it.) I was trying to prove that religion can't be proven, not defend sense-making scientific theories.
And of course they had the technology. The bible came out way after the Greeks were overtaken. The Christian culture spread to the Romans, who overtook the Greeks at a point in time. The Romans adapted plenty of Greek culture, and many of them probably adapted the Greek round earth theory as well. As many know, Christianity spread like the plague to Rome. Romans could have easily sent back some of THEIR culture to Christians as well, and so Isaih could have EASILY learned the earth was round through passed down knowledge from the old Romans.
They were CONVERTED Christian. They used to be polytheist (believers of multiple gods). Take some remedial History classes. You DESPERATELY need them. I, on the other hand, am getting an A in World History.
This has nothing to do with your grades, so if you ask me to eat something I'm shoving it down your throat.
Onwards, 1) There IS a difference between Christianity and fake idiots. "Gangstas" who want to get it on at the age of 16 and screw some girls life up can do so. Its not our right to say their not Christians even if they are.
2) I'm not Christian, and, if someone does talk about "It says it in the bible" then don't stand out to it. If something in the History says something that doesn't accord to Christian history, ignore it.
3) Wizard, your veiw of Christianity is totally derranged. Truthfully, it is recorded that over half of Christians don't pray or something, not sure if its true. The Fact is, as America and other countries change, Religion and Culture is seeking out of Children minds these days. And people are too stupid to do so, as most parents don't spend the time for it. If your forced to go to church, then either embrace it or when you're old enough.. change religions.
and, if you acctually have a CLASS in school about it [tell me if you do] and its a public school, you could probably just sue it for going against the religion tolerance policy in America.
Last of all, I'm Muslim, and I'm saying this. I respect a Christian who isn't some ridiculous idiot as much as I respect myself. So, I know you have a problem, but if someone says "If your not christian and your going to hell" you can take it as its not your faith and move on.
Wizard, there are some good religious people out there in the word. Talk to one some day, you might fix your veiws.
Who's to judge who gets to go to Hell or Heaven? God, if (s)he / it even exists, why would he be able to decide how we feel on the inside, what we TRULY think of ourselves? Besides, if you're Christian and believe in Jesus's teachings, go look at some of the similarities between Jesus and Horus, it's pretty much all the exact same things.
