I have recently started to do (what I think is) basic freerunning. That pretty much means jumping up and down stairs running and kicking off walls jumping over stuff and up ledges. Anyone else do free running? If so anyone have any tips?
haha that is pretty cool well I have heard it called like urbansomething or other and stuff it sounds cool well I have tried doing it on a 6 floor aspen hotel not a good idea!
I do that too just to get my blood moving. Some tips I got for ya is to pump your arms up to get more fun out of it and get your MP3 player out and listen while doing some free running.
Any of you guys have tips to start going higher so far im only doing smallish drops of about 4 feet and jumping up and off them. I would like to go into a more larger scale but need advice on if I should or not.
Well allways make sure you don't do anything you are not comfortable with. start small, and ocne you can do that, move o na little bit.
If you have ever seen the music video for "it's not my time" By three doors down (I think) He is slightly better then me. That is the kind of things you can do once you learn basic steps of Parkour. gymnastics classes help, though I could never afford them. trying doing a kong. Find a railing, such as one the seperates a over look from a small three foot drop, onto concrete. Run at the rialing, and put your arms on to it. Then let your legs swing INBETWEEN your arms.
BTW, have you mastered the landing? Balls of your feet, and rool into a ball...sorta. Allways make sure to turn your head away, or you could MAGERLY mess up your spin.
Yeah, I free-run a fair bit, these days I use it for taking shortcuts moreso than fun though, because I spend most of my waking hours in shirt and tie and carrying a bag full of doctor's equipment.
Nobody I know here is particularly picky but there is a difference between "free running" and "arkour"- the former having a style emphasis typified by David Belle and the latter being a philosophy of efficiency, which is more Sebastian Foucan. I do either depending on my mood (and dress, since you can't do a flip while carrying a strap-bag unless you want to die/break all the stuff in your bag).
Anyway, to learn how to roll, there are actually two forms you'll use in Parkour: front and side. For both, obviously start by doing it from a crouched position, standing still. Then from a standing position, then running. If you can't do that you'll mess up your transition when dropping, which can result in anything from sprains to broken bones.
The other thing to note is that when doing a forward roll, drop your weight onto one of your shoulders (figure out which one you prefer, then plan your approaches accordingly). The weight should be borne by your shoulder then towards the midline of your back as you follow through. If you go in straight, you'll risk breaking your neck and it screws up the motion anyway.
Backward rolls is generally uncalled for in Parkour but hey, who knows, they're cool too, like if you want to suddenly reverse direction.
