Well, I know quite a few. Their religion itself is odd and cultish to an extent, but the every mormon I know is quite nice so they must teach something useful or its just coincidece. But definately it's an odd religion but a religion none the less.
Ya sundays some special day for them. Their not allowed to go to freinds houses, amusment parks, ect. Kinda why it doesn't appeal to most people, oh, and the alchohol thing.
Well I could understand why they don't drink alchohol. They think their body is a Temple of God and the Temple of God isn't suppoused to be defiled so they don't drink alcohol because it damages your body and makes you do stupid things.
That's exactly right DarkLadyRaven. Oh, I can add Catholic to my visited list... I watched a friend be ordained last night.
@Somers. The Trinity doesn't have to be complicated, that's the beef I had. The Bible's explains it VERY clear. If I was home and not sitting in a hospital room, I'd cite the verses. As for getting into trouble, Yes, a few pastors and other clergy said I had too many questions for my own good, and to not ask again... Needless to say, that was the last time I went. I'm not going to apologize for wanting to know answers or being entirely too smart as a child. But as I stated before, the LDS church was the ONLY church I've attended that could answer ALL my questions. Some churches could answer some, but not all.
Rumors like we still practice polygamy. We worship Joseph Smith and other prophets. We don't read the Bible. We offer up human sacrifices (I've only heard this once, but I thought I should put it out here). And various others. Share some of the ones you guys have heard of, I'll try to clarify them for you,
I'm Mormon too, just fyi. I think our original Mormon thread was here. Some other rumors i've heard; it's a sin for us to laugh, we eat babies, we dig up dead people, we have horns, the spires on our temples are to stab Jesus when he descends at the Second Coming, etc.
We try not to do much on Sunday because it's the Sabbath day, quite frankly. As it says in Genesis 2:3, God blessed and sanctified the seventh day. We think that we should at least spend time together as a family and observe that day. We don't have to like sit there and read the bible all day or anything, it's just supposed to be a day of rest, a day to not worry about stuff.
Young men, between the ages of 19 and 25 go on a mission for two years.
Just to clarify a tad before a misunderstanding arises, young men are obligated to serve a mission. Not required. it's a completely personal choice, and each person who goes on a mission funds their way.
And as for the trinity, simply put we believe that God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit are three separate people. Completely separate. When it says they are one, it is meant that they serve one purpose.
Well some guy saw a "vision" and an angel told him where he could find these tablets. So he told everyone in his village about these tablets or new gospel or whatever. I think their all brainwashed. This guy took advantage of uneducated villagers.
Personally, i think Joseph Smith has as much right to saying he had a vision as did Moses or any other prophet. And we believe that Jesus Christ and God appeared to him and told him where to find the plates. His "village", as you say, was Palmyra, New York, a small town. (correct me if i'm wrong). You're making it sound like he swindled a litle hut-dwelling entourage (no offense to any hut-dwellers out there). People had/have as much choice as they wanted to believe in this religion as they do to believe in any other religion.
Just stating our views; last thread turned into a fight and it wasn't too great.
