No matter what the topic is relgious oppinions always end up monopolising pretty much any and every conversation and nobody ever backs down about religion turning every thread into a giant circle jerk.

I think it would benefit everybody if there was a section specifically about religion so it can be kept out of the politics and world events forum. But then have some of the same topics. Example, if you want to look at gay rights from a legal perspective it would be in the World events and politics section but if you believe it's wrong from a religious point of view then it would go there instead. I reckon everybody would be happier.

Good idea, but people will still nonetheless refer to politics and whatever not. Religion and politics get messed up together these days... Consider terrorism. Bush called Muslim extrememists Islamofascists.

World events or important ideas encompass both scientific and religious parts too. Look at evolution. People won't know where to put that topic under.

Plus some folks might want to write from a religious viewpoint. For example, their religion might condemn homosexuals. Or such. These religious viewpoints still contribute in some way to the whole debate, though it gets messed up.

sorry but you have to realize that religion, politics, and world events tend to intertwine with each other so much that this would be pointless. People would still go over to the World Politics section to debate about things from their point of view, and the thing is people of different beliefs are probably going to be arguing until the end of time, and there is very little that any of us can do to change this, except make everyone think that a single belief is true which would be near if not completely impossible to do since we all think differently. I understand you apparently don't like it when people turn these debates into something about religion, but I have not seen all of them turn into this. Especially some of the ones concerning current politics, although many are based off of religiously based theories or arguments to begin with. The most I could suggest for you is that if you have something against these arguments, then don't go to those threads. Sorry I can't help anymore then that.

I only have 2 solutions to this problem.

1. Learn to debate better.
2. Allow the other person to keep their standpoint; wrong or right, religion or politics.
