You know how schools are supposed to be for education, right? Well, not every stuff you learn in school is brand-new. What were some of the most useless and stupid things you have learned in class?
Learning cursive handwriting in the 5th grade. I did my kindergarten when I was in India, so the curriculum is much higher. Believe it or not, I learned cursive in kindergarten. It wasn't that hard. Then when I came to the USA, I had to go through the whole process again in 2nd grade. Three years later, this same stuff again? We could have done surface area or figurative language..something useful..at least something not already taught..
It really depends on what sort of career you wish to have in the future. Cursive writing may be useful for secretaries and clerks but useless for astro-physicts. So no, everything I have learnt so far I hold as useful due to the fact that I still have not decided what to do in the future.
Well, everything but language, writing and reading seems to be more or less useless now (Information Science does not have a lot of math). But in general I see no subject as actually useless. The purpose might be a little hazy, but not useless. Like any math? It widens your horizon, and it will help you use your logic sense. Most math is logic anyway. It will help you think in new ways, and maybe even cut corners (Math is the subject of the lazy). Cursive handwriting? Well, it gives you the feel of writing, it makes your handwriting more readable even when you are writing fast (because of the concepts learned), and it might even look good.
I'm not really sure why cursive has to be withheld until the 5th grade in Western countries. I think it's something to do with an old school of thought that teaching uniformity in writing style will either shape personality or at least neat handwriting.
Doesn't seem to make a difference to me. Doctors' scripts are still completely illegible because we have to fill out forms in 30 seconds while running to the next ward.
I don't know, I kind of like knowing a bit of everything. It gives you a feel for subject matter and may help you in the future.
I really hated the first couple weeks of science class from 7th grade on. Every year no matter the science, we'd have to go over basic units and how to read a ruler and graduated cylinder etc. demonstrations.
The most useless thing I have learnt was in a physics class aboutvectors etc. after 3 weeks of work the teacher realised we didn't need it for the exam. It is a new sylabus this year so all the teachers are confused as to what to teach. It is just the fact that we wasted so long and we turned up to lesson and he went whoops sorry gorget all that.
I looked up cursive is it just joined up hand writing. I don;t even remember being taught it thats just how I wrote. Or is it something else outside of england?

Umm. I guess it's just connected writing. But some of the letters are hard to write in cursive. People say it's faster to write in cursive then normal writing.
