Well to keep this thread alive explain why you chose one over the other.
I prefer Metallica. They have many different styles in music. Plus Kirk Hammett is one of my favorite guitarist. I own an ESP Kirk Hammett Signature KH-20 electric guitar...
SoaD, because they have more instrumental variety, and Metallica's music gets tiring after a while. SoaD has more complex music, and a crapload of unique instruments to boot.
I choose System of a Down. I like how diverse their music is, and how they aren't afraid to say what they think through their lyrics. Most bands shy away from politics in fear of losing fans, System was never afraid of that.
Also, they have Serj Tankian, who is amazing. The only member I don't like is the guitarist, he just doesn't seem to fit in and seems to have a very large ego. He's still a great guitarist though.
Metallica, gods of Metal. They rank up there with Black Sabbath. They have awesome songs with alot of variety, and for a screamer their singer sings quite well. I only know 1 of SoaD and it's the one off of GH :P. I really like Ride the Lightning and Enter Sandman. Also, they have one of the greatest lead guitarists ever.
Some good Metallica is Ride the Lightning or Fade to Black, which highlights their two extremes. Other good ones are Master of Puppets, The Unforgiven, Enter Sandman or Seek and Destroy.
If you haven't heard anything from Metallica you should be ashamed of yourself and go look them up on youtube. As for my choice, Metallica. RIP Cliff Burton.

I prefer SOAD. I can connect with their lyric better and also they have an unusual sound, which I like. Metallica is a good band, but, in my opinion, not as good as SOAD.
Well for me, it all depends on what mood I'm in. If I'm in a head banging mood ready to scream my heart out, then Metallica. If I'm in a "dude! way sick!" mood, then SOAD. But overall, i think SOAD is a bit better just do to my personal opinion of their freaky lyrics and diverse music.
