Personally i would recommend pretty much anything by lamb of god or gojira. meshuggah and born of osiris have some good stuff, too.
Slipknot and Bullet for my valentine are not metal.You should listen to some Opeth or Amon Amarth.
Hammerfall's a pretty decent metal band if you can't take too much death growls and loud lyrics.
