So I was reading the news earlier, and I found this story
Basically, it says that an Ohio a teen is going to be suspended and not allowed to attend graduation if he attends prom at his girlfriends public school. Now, you guys are probably asking why. The answer is because his private fundamentalist Baptist school prohibits dancing, holding hands, and rock music. All of which are common at prom.
In another article that I read (sorry, can't find it again) it says that if he participates in sex or using alcohol during the prom he will be suspended.
So, what do you guys think about this? Do you agree? Disagree? Do you think that suspension is a fair punishment? Let's hear it.
Oh and I disagree with the kid getting suspended, also, this may have already been mentioned, but isn't it moot point, I mean unless someone from is school is watching him at all times at this public school prom then it shouldn't be a problem.
It doesn't matter. If you break the rules of a private institution, you should be punished. Nor does it matter whether or not someone is keeping an eye on him at all times. If you are caught doing something wrong, you suffer the consequences.
I do NOT agree with the policy. But it is the policy that is in place, so you have to follow the rules.
Even if they're applying to his life outside of school?
Yes. There are certain standards people have to meet. I'm a teacher. If I was seen drunk in a bar by a school administrator, I could be fired, even though I'm outside school grounds. I have to live up to certain standards set by my employer. The same goes for students in a private school. They have to live up to the rules set by the school.
see, this is why i hate religion. Those people have no right to watch him outside of school, punish him for listening to music and holding hands. It's a PROM, and he should be allowed to go. And If they say that rock music is suggestive, that is ****ing BS. The religious music is way more suggestive, even though i suggests different things.

While they don't have the right to stalk him, and while I do think these rules about rock music and holding hands are a bit much, thelistman is right, it's a private school. If I get caught on drugs outside of my private school grounds, I'd get suspended, need to do 60 hours of Christian service, need to see the police (obviously), and if I ever get caught again, I'm expelled. This is more reasonable since it's drugs and not holding hands, but the point is that private schools try to hold high standards. These rules aren't hidden in the fine print, so everyone knows it.
