This thread contains crucial information to the plot of Harry Potter. If you are currently reading the books, plan to, or just don't want to know what happens I suggest you do not continue in this thread.
Some people requested that my old Harry Potter thread be turned into a general discussion one, but I decided it would be more effective to simply create a new one.
For anyone who doesn't know, Harry Potter is a series of books written by J.K. Rowling about a young wizard named Harry Potter. He was born amidst chaos created by an evil wizard named Lord Voldemort. When Harry was one month old Voldemort went to kill Harry's mother, father, and him. He succeeded in killing Harry's parents, but when he turned to Harry his killing curse reversed and appeared to have killed himself instead. Harry is then sent to live with this "muggle" (non-magical) aunt and uncle who are more against magic and the likes of it than just about every one else. He is raised not even knowing he is a wizard, until he is asked to attend Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry...and that's where I'll stop.
In this thread you can talk about anything Harry Potter related. The books, movies, characters, plot, everything you want. Just make sure you follow the rules, no spam, flaming, all that stuff. Friendly debates are encouraged.
Yay, more and more people are taking my advice nowadays.
I wonder if Rowling will ever write more books in the series within the next few years. Will it be based upon Harry's adult life, or his children's life at Hogwarts? Somehow, I'm sure she will be able to do something to separate the new series from the old one. it is this innovation in literature that got her this far, after all. Although it doesn't necessarily have to be a new series, I know, the Deathly Hallows was an unmistakable finale, so if there is anything more in the world of Harry Potter, it will be in a new series.
This will do nicely for the starters of a discussion, don't you think, Green? A mod would have to move this to Popular Media, though.

Ya, I'm thinking that it could probably become a pretty permanent thread as long as people start debating some things. And there's a lot in Harry Potter that can be debated. Oh ya, don't know what I was thinking posting it in the Tavern.

I sure hope that she writes some more someday. If I could choose one or the other I'd have to pick a series about Harry and his friend's lives after Hogwarts. It would be very interesting seeing how his experiences as a child influence him in adulthood, and since he's an auror she wouldn't run out of things to write about. A book about his kids though could be equally as interesting, but I think it would be difficult to create an interesting enough conflict to last for several books without making it seem unrealistic. It would be very interesting to see how Hogwarts has changed, how it hasn't changed, and who is remembered from the time Harry went there.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is coming out on July 15th, this year. Then the Deathly Hallows will be split into two movies, due to release in 2010 and 2011.
So what do you think of the movies? Personally I believe that the first, second, and fourth weren't good at all. It's not just that they didn't go far enough in depth (which is pretty impossible, since the books are so long) but they just weren't filmed very well in my opinion. They left out some of the more important things, and included seemingly unimportant things. The third was really good though, along with the fifth. The fifth was probably my favorite, not only was the acting much better but it just seems to be much more professionally done.

Ah well...fitting 700 pages into two hours of film is tough. But the directors really took out many details!

Then they would have to a new villain...Voldemort Revived? Or perhaps the life of other characters in their school life. Snape? Hagrid?
Green, are you sure that the two parts of Deathly Hallows will come out in those years. Because a frame of only one year for two consecutive movies seems like a lot of work.

So it seems. But I hope they make it in two parts. So that they can play it out...to its full potential.
They must make it in two parts, and it has already been decided anyway. If they try to jam it all into one movie it would be totally ruined.
I think I good way to end the first half would be the part where Ron comes back and saves Harry, and then they destroy the locket and the three are reunited. It's also a good starting point for the next half.
