I have noticed a lot of different sites and their different styles during my in(un)famous The Great Forum Test, however all in all it is up to the user to respect basic conversation structure, spelling, and plain seriousness in the end.
"A retard by any other name still cant type."
Take a website such as Newgrounds, Facebook, or Twitter. There is only one or two users who use manners online, others are immature people trying to be mature by insulting people, social outcasts who think they matter online, and just plain morons. I like to think i have good online manners, and I take pride in it, even though many people couldn't care if I was text talking insults about sombreros I never actually wore in Iceland (Wait, wha...?).
I digress...
Armour games is actually one of the best sites I know of with internet manners, no doubt it is thanks to the mods (Sucking up here, come on throw me a bone). Actually I am just typing this for no real reason, but at least you can read it, hey.
So what's your opinion of the steady decline into the sludge we know exists? (Again -- Wa...?)
I think that idiots are the minority on the internet as a general rule but seem to scream louder (through typing somehow) than intelligent people. But I would agree that this is the best mannered site I've been to. Although a troll showing up every so often are good for a laugh.
Etiquette on the other hand. But yes, for a forum with a majority of preteens and early teens, we have surprisingly few who act up or is acting immature (not saying that age = intelligence, Alt...), which is rather nice. There is some who do this, both younger and older people, though. People who do not listen. But I guess most of the honour for this might be given to the moderators for continuously correcting and explaining and observing. And a great applauds to the group that do not need the corrections and explaining.
I think that on this website, because the majority of people here use correct grammar, other people do it because otherwise people tell them off.
In another thread, a member stated that his spelling and grammar had greatly improved due to this site's forums. I think that people here just do it because everyone does.
Would that also be the reason that when I correct someone's grammar or spelling I'm called a 'wannabe mod'?
Possibly.
I find it funny that I is yet to be called wannabe mod... I think I have gotten it once while correcting someone in the Dragcave thread, but that is it.
I find manners online are reasonably good though i'm probably not looking in the right places. On Facebook I've only added people that I know at school. (I always find it strange that people I never talk to at school add me as a friend online... then again it says something about me that I've said more to them online than I have done in 7 years at school). Anyway I agree that the mods have a huge hand in the good manners on this site though I think bad manners is generally looked down upon by most here.
I find it funny that I am yet to be called wannabe mod...
Fixed. :P
That's because since English isn't your first language, your grammar isn't picture-perfect so as to qualify you as a genuine English Grammar Nazi. More importantly your reputation is such that people wouldn't be surprised to see you talking in blue one day. It's a position of honour not to be called wannabe mod :P
AG is a case in point- it is eminently possible to cultivate a culture...though you don't really need to look that closely to find other examples!
You can take it, you're a third dan black-belt in TKD!
I do believe I mentioned it was useless... Basically I do it for stamina training, and the occasional free running/swimming which I can't do... due to a cast.......... For bone bruising! wut wut?
I hate myself sometimes... Those errors are mistakes I make more often than not... That, and keyboard errors...
More importantly your reputation is such that people wouldn't be surprised to see you talking in blue one day. It's a position of honour not to be called wannabe mod :P
DDX when did you become a Mo.... hey wait a minute....
Manners eh... Its strange that al the dicks at my school are popular they have no manners etc. though. But on here if you came on with no mannes and no respect for others you wouldn't last long.
