I'm sure that most have you know what click it or ticket is, if you don't wear a seat belt you can be pulled over and given a ticket for it. I was wondering what everyone thinks to that. Is it the government's right to step in and tell us we have to wear a seat belt or else, or is it up to the individual who is informed of the risks if they do not. Is this just an example of government sticking it's nose in where it doesn't belong and micromanaging our lives or not.

Well, by doing this they are trying to keep us safe. If don't wear a seat belt and get in a crash, your pretty much dead. They put seat belts in a car for a reason and they should be used...or else XP

I agree with napolian safety belts cut deaths and are safe. Then again it could be a nice bit of natural selection, if your dumb ebough to not wear a seatbelt your dumb enough to not be in the gene pool. And it isn;t just your life at risk if your not strapped in you can go flying anywhere. If your in the back you can crush the person in front of you.

I agree with it, but I've been at the bad end of a similar law. I was pulled over for speeding (39mph in 35mph) and the officer let me off because of a clean record but stuck me with not wearing my seat belt. I noramlly wear it but I was excited for the weekend and wanted to get home quick so I neglected to wear it and was of course going alittle to fast. So in the end I was stuck with a $110 lesson.

Not that I want people to die but...

Let people decide if they need to wear a seatbelt. I think the government needs to stop that law. I wear my seatbelt, but I think other people need to decide whether they want to or not.

They can...

be careless and have a slightly higher chance of dieing if they get into a crash but ride more comfortably...

or...

wear a seatbelt, have a lower chance of dieing if they get into a car crash, but get less comfort while riding.

This is a little bit off topic, but I'll add that sometimes seatbelt don't help. I have heard cases where the seatbelt strap breaks or it comes unbuckled. So in some cases, regardless if the victim is wearing a seatbelt, he/she may be injured/killed.

Not to say that seatbelts don't help. They most certainly do. Just saying though...

Well, the real issue here is not if seatbelts save lives or not, that's a fact everyone knows and is not up for debate at this time. What is up for debate is is it the government's place to tell an adult they have to wear their seatbelt in a vehicle, even if they do not wish too and are aware of all the risks. Is it not up to the individual if they want to put their life at risk or not, and should it be different for people riding in the back for example?

Hmm, I think in DK we only get tickets for not having given the children seat belts on.
But yeah, I guess it is up to the individual to figure out if they want to take the risk. There have been cases where people have been saved by not having their seat belts on, I think, as well as people being killed because they were wearing the seat belts...

Well I highly advocate seatbelts, because One of my friends died because of not having worn a seat belt. The car rolled off a hill and the driver was wearing one but the passenger was not. My friend was the passenger and he died.

i know a person who doesn't believe seat belts save lives he believes its futile to even wear one. You ever heard on the news how they say "well if they only would have worn a seat belt they might've survived" well they could've done any number of things and they "might" have survived.

Personally if i'm ever in a bad car wreck i don't wanna survive i'd rather be killed instantly. If i wear a seat belt instead of going through the windshield and smashing my head open i would probably break my neck and end up paralyzed for the rest of my life or possibly just linger on for a couple days in excruciating pain before i die. I don't know about you but i dig the whole dying instantly thing seat belts take the whole instantly thing outta the equation and your just left with dying which really isn't all the quick and fun.

no not really... It is proven that with a seatbelt you are have a 99% chance of surviving an otherwise fatal accident. Just a few days ago, I saw 2 people enter the ER, one of them was on the hospital gurney, with neck trauma and head trauma, the other was walking behind looking worried. Both of them were in the same car sitting in the front, the one unconscious was the one who did not wear the seatbelt, while the other wore one and only had some light scratches.

I wear my seatbelt, but the government has no business telling me what to do with my own safety. If I don't want to wear a seatbelt, it's my dang choice. Once they take one freedom, they start taking more.

a few years ago my cousin was driving with some of his friends and he was going around a bend and flipped over the guardrail long story short he wasn't wearing a seat belt and he came out unscathed but his friend even though he was wearing a seat belt died

I hate seat belts! They make my neck chafe!

In all seriousness I feel that they should do this, since it's not just the idiot who will die, it could also be another driver who gets hit by them.
