The problem is...the Newcomers do not know where to look initially, so they just ask anyone, or post the threads. When I first came...well I didn't make any duplicae threads...but I pestered lots of people. I mean...would you know where to go, where to look when you first arrived at an airport in a distant country? But are there people milling around to ask for directions? Most definitely.
Well, obviously, if you arrived in a distant country, you would have a guide named Sticky that
helped you through everything you needed to know. After all, you wouldn't go to a place
deemed impossible to understand, correct? Yes, we get those too, those that can't understand
English.
How about this: if they really don't know anything how in the world would they know how to make
a new thread if they don't know a darn thing about this site? Is it because it's bigger? Does
it have a different color than the rest of the page? Even if they saw this first, they just
have to look a couple of inches downward to see **PLEASE READ** stickies just begging to
be read by people to help them. But no. They don't.
You see, very rarely do I see newcomers asking for help on AP. THOSE are the real newcomers.
Sure, they may ask for info on how the ranks are set up, but we can't blame them on that,
after all, the help button is too tiny and to the far right of the page. The rest, how should
they know what a merit is if they don't know what AP is when they themselves are newcomers too?
Exactly. See, why can't we just redirect them to a page that tells them the basics of AG
life, so that instead of asking "what is AP?" they ask "are there other ways of getting AP?",
a step up from simple questions that can be answered from a click in the right direction, or in
my suggestion, on the page as soon as you register. If they skip it? That's their fault; that's
when we know that they are just spamming for AP. It will make all of our time here easier if
this was done, and it can give mods to focus on other things.
