God loves everyone...except gays, women, blacks, muslims...basically everyone who isn't a white male. And he means actuall whites, no canadians, jews, or the Irish.

Also, those actual whites have to be christian. So basically no norwegians, french, swedish, finish, russian.

I'm not sure if that was something that was directed at me personally, but to clear something up: I am putting forth that by the bible, homosexuality is wrong. I'm not a christian though. I'm not even religious; I'm an athiest. I don't share those views, but keeping to the topic - does the bible say homosexuality is 'not okay?' Yes, it absolutely does.

It wasn't, it was directed at GAGAMEN, who made the remark on the previous page and was addressed by myself at the top of this page.

Anyway, let's cut to the chase- HiddenDistance may be the only person here who has given an unequivocal answer on what it says about homosexuality in the Bible. Most of us tend to skirt around the issue, questioning the interpretation and the context and the history and the translation of the Bible.

These issues are all relevant, to be sure, but what this indicates to us is the scope of our own concerns and more interestingly our underlying agenda. I thus assert that the two types of people most likely to acknowledge that the Bible rules against homosexual behaviours are those who are religions and either homophobic or habitually interpret things in a dogmatic or literal fashion. The former generally have no qualms about being hateful, the latter type of people frequently struggle to reconcile their beliefs with their sentiments.

Then you have the atheists who think that Christianity is a sinking ship anyway and it's nothing to do with them.

Despite being a non-Christian, I accompany my mother to Church regularly. In Australia, like many other places, the Church is shrinking. Having been to several churches, I see a pattern: several leaders have opted to stick to their guns and reaffirm their convictions, choosing to rail against the "growing immorality and secularism of our times" and attempt to spread a simultaeneous message of "Christians are being oppressed" and "we must follow God's laws," which, for the purposes of this post, tend to include some kind of anti-homosexual stance.

In short it seems to have become a case of being dogmatic for the sake of maintaining a dying identity. Have times moved on? Given that a mere 4% of the 19-34 population in Australia attend church, is it really the beginning of the end of the Church? Is this response going to change things or further drive nails into their own coffin?

I feel that the directions of the discussion in this thread indicate that people are more concerned about homosexuality itself. That it may or may not be compatible with Christian doctrine is becoming a secondary concern.
