Yes. Googlism. It is an actual religion. Funnily enough, you can learn about it on google. Check it out and tell me what you think. I think it is the first religion of many in a new technology-independent generation.

I've been thinking about it and, as stupid as I think this whole Googlism thing is, there does seem to be some validity to the concept. I'm not saying that I'm going to jump on the "Googles a god" band wagon. What I find myself thinking is that we have this entire generation for whom computers are the primary source of information. The term "Googlism" seems too much like corporate worship to me. However there is merit to the idea that people use it to seek out answers to all of lifes questions. I think that perhaps this phenomenon would be more accuratly refered to as webism or internetology or something like that. When we want to know something or we need to find something we seek answers from the internet.
Other possible names for internet religion: Internetism, Netism, Searchism, Webology.

If you think about it that makes us all Googleists.

I think that this is mostly a fad religion, but if someone wants to believe that a few servers ad a whole lot of lines of code can answer all of life's questions, then go ahead.

Google is a useful tool that millions of people use that gives people a lot of information about pretty much anything they search into it. It also deals with pictures, videos and maps. However, it should not be a religion. A religion is usually revolved around a god. There are a lot of differences between google and a god:

Gods are usually rumoured to have created humans.Google was created by humans.
Gods generally have powers for contolling and creating things. Google does not have any special powers.
Gods have been around since the start of time. Google started in 1997.
Gods are very powerful and created the world. Google is a few lines of code on the internet.

What are people going to come up with next? Maybe Youtubeism or Wikipediaism

I tend to agree that it's a fad religion. There are religions that don't center on the worship of a god though, Buddhism is a good example. I think that if people stop thinking of Google as a god and focus more on the concept of seeking answers from the internet (not just from Google) the idea may gain more ground.

If you think about it that makes us all Googleists

I'm more of an Askist myself. :P

Well I decided I would do this just for fun. The first answer was exactly the one I expected, a link to a Wikipedia article on phrases from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. While the The Hitchhiker's Guide is one of my favorite books I think that Douglas Adams would laugh at people who think he really discovered the answer.
Other then that it offers 64,600 results. I'm sorry but I don't see that as an answer. It's 64,600 possible answers. Most of the results on the first page are more references to Hitchhiker's. If Google was really a god I think it would recognize the differance between fact and fiction. If Google was truly a god I think it would only offer one answer to that search and it would choose that one result because it is the absolutly correct one.
