I was on Yahoo answers, and there was a person who was not particularly religious who asked a question.
Hmm...I bet you can all see where this is going. A person who's not religious, asking a question, to a crowd of crazy Christians. (Sorry, but those extremists need to get out of the media).
Here was a response the guy got...
"It has nothing to do with a "test." God made everything perfect for us. It is humans who reject God and question everything He does all the time, but everything God does is perfect. The only way into heaven is by believing the beautiful message of Christ Jesus. Please pray a sincere prayer with all your heart admitting to Him you are a sinner. Accept His gift of eternal life then you will be in heaven with Him forever. I pray that God blesses you with peace. Amen."
First of all, what's with this "God made everything perfect"? If God made everything perfect, then why are babies still born with dissabilities? We didn't cause that by rejecting God, so why does it happen?
But anyway, this all sounds like a cult. Worship the unknown leader, don't ask why, just do it. Admit that you're a sinner, admit you've done wrong, let him be your master. Don't question, no no no don't question, just believe. Believe it with all your heart and then finally you can go to...Heaven? Why do religious people use Heaven as their bartering tool? I mean, what's so great about it anyway? Why do we want to go there so much, especially if they're trying to convert someone who doesn't believe. In my experience non-believers have had stronger arguments against religion, than the people with arguments for religion.
Alright, I know I went all over the place with that but I found it pretty ridiculous.
Well, I meant more the idea of 'faith' as in: belief that is not based on proof. We are living in an age where irrational thought is becoming obsolete, and I think hanging onto beliefs for which we have no proof is irrelevant.
Yet our "roof" will be obsolete in a century, the things that we take for granted today as true will undoubtedly we proved false in a thousand years, the fact that religion has existed for the entire span of humans thus far gives it some credibility. With Judaism and from that Christianity being the longest lasting religion (not the oldest) surviving through many of the "facts" of human history and surpassing the life of other major religions well that gives it again more credibility and I believe shows that it's based on atleast some facts.

No. No it doesn't. Ever notice how throughout the middle ages those who were deemed as heretics or witches were either murdered, executed, or excommunicated to keep them away from the true believers?
Christianity & judaism are still around because of diligent thought control on part of the church. Commoners didn't know how to read, and beyond that, the bible was generally in latin, so even if they could read their *own* language, they wouldn't be able to read the bible for themselves - so they were forced to listen to their priest, monk or pastor diligently or 'go to hell'.
Science changes, because it's the best ideas that we have about how our world and universe works *today*. Religion doesn't change though, because it's 'holy'. Some of the ideas that we think to be true today might be modified or appended with additional theories and ideas, but to think that the things we're doing with science today will be obsolete is ridiculous.
Science builds on itself. The new technology and new practical applications that we are forming are based on the things that we already know. If we were wrong somewhere down the way, these things wouldn't work in the manner that we expect them to work. Now that religion isn't oppressing scientific work the way they used to, we actually have a chance to learn how the universe really works.
Oh.. and if Judaism and Christianity are based on 'at least some facts' I'd like to see them; this isn't my first goat.. err.. time arguing those particular theisms, and I still haven't seen anyone provide credible proof.
Fair enough, although I'd much rather bash on Christians and Republicans. Plus, I don't like most religions (for various reasons, its not that I hate people who are religious, just the religions themselves), which is why I like to go against Christianity so much. To me, Muslims blowing themselves up is the equivalent of Christians killing people back in the crusades
I love you for saying that.

Same. That's really the only thing that irks me about religion. It has absolutely no facts to back it up. But there is already a thread about that... >_>
Anyway it is a cult, definition: a group or sect bound together by veneration of the same thing, person, ideal, etc.
Basically it's a group of people aweing in amazement, although I think cults are a little more brainwashed myself. But that is exactly it, its brainwashing. Whoever said that was right. People just make their kids christians, and their kids christians, and so on and so forth. I don't like it.
