I was watching the news and I saw them talking about when Obama swatted at a fly during a CNBC interview. Now the PETA (People for the Ethical Treament of Animals) is very upset about this. To qoute them.
"In a nutshell, our position is this: He isn't the Buddha, he's a human being, and human beings have a long way to go before they think before they act."
I think that they are over reacting about the whole situation. I mean its just a fly for Gods sake. They don't have to go all defensive with the fly. They've probably done it too. So they need to just be quite about the situation. If it wasn't Obama doing it they could've cared less. I think it is just an act to get attention.
OVER REACTING, i mean, i bet anything that any one of those PETA members have killed a fly before. If they really cared so much about one fly they can come into my house and remove them before I break out the bug spray.. MUHAHAHAHa. And really, whats a life span of a fly? Like 2 days or something like that.
lol, I find that funny. Also its not actually an animal its an insect, but i can still imagine that happining. (I'm now suprised they don't get mad at janitors for knocking down a spider web)
I killed a fly last week, and I tried to kill one today but I lost him. But if anybody's crazy about the protection of flies, once I accidently caught a fly in my hand, and I just threw him outside. But I don't think Obama really had time to do that.
An insect is an animal. Animal is defined in the dictionary I own six different ways but I think the first sums it up best: "animal, noun. any living being capable of sensation and the power of voluntary motion: distinguished from plants by its inability to make its own food by photosynthesis."
So an insect is an animal. We're all animals. Because humans can build tools and engage in complex thought we set ourselves apart from other animals. A fly is not a mammal, so it is harder for the human mind to muster sympathy for it. There is not much chance that people killing flies will ever lead to their extinction.
I think that if it hadn't happen during an interview there is a good chance that no one would have noticed Obama killing the fly.
I think the whole fly incident is pathetic. So what if Barack killed a fly, people kill flies all the time. Besides, PETA shouldn't make a big deal about something like this, it's just dumb. It shows you that the media doesn't want to cover anything serious about Barack.
