How fast is the processor on your computer? I just want to get an idea what the range of speeds are for the players in this community. I read some of the feedback on the games on AG, and I often see comments about players experiencing slowdown when they play a game. I'd like to know what the speeds are on these computers that are experiencing slowdown to keep in mind for my own programs.

Thanks in advance.

I don't know exactly how slow it is, but it's really slow. It's actually a laptop, so it makes sense.. It's soooooo slooooow ):

Why are you deep freezing them all? Isn't that just a hassle if you want to install or update something?

no, actually there is no hassle, otherwise I wouldn't be deep freezing them all.

I don't think they is a program for linux deep freeze and I don't think you would need it. Seeing that there are NO viruses for linux.

obviously you don't run linux. you can get trojans and worms in your computer that install onto the C drive if you are not careful. Just like the ignorant people who believe there are no viruses for macs, there are viruses for all OS's.

You still haven't answered my question of what linux distribution your using.

I believe I said Astaro Security, I don't know how I have not answered you question.

Mine is "only" 2.4 gHz but it has 4 processors which makes it nice and easy to play on Football Manager which literally meled my last computer

Football Manager 2004 destroyed me a laptop and a computer. I was so close winning the Champions League with Inter and I never made it.

Apparently mines a 3.2 GHz but it runs like it runs at 1 GHz. DEATH TO VISTA! No, kidding, but I hate vista. Can barely run Civilization 4, which is freaking old.

I think the requirements are a "2.8 GHz dual core processor; 3GB RAM" but from some of the stuff said about it the game runs slowly even on bigger systems. I'd try turning off some of the options, like detail/shade etc., to lower what the game needs to run.

I hope that I have these and is only a video card problem.

For those with student/budget computers, how fast is your processor? For example, yesterday I tested my program on my friend's $200 notebook which is 1.4 GHz (but only 250MB RAM).

Usually you need better VGA with better core, If you have Pentium Quad-core Extreme with an old VGA, it will runs like 1Ghz. And you will need 4 or 8 Gb DDr2 too.

Well, try to play Prince of Persia and using the Dust and Shadow, if it's not lag, I can say it's a good PC. You can also try to benchmark and compare the score with your friend.

I was playing a game in my father server, but it's not fast(when playing PC game), it's fast when using Linux for Server-side net and the same speed when doing stand-alone or Client-side net.

I don't really think so. Before I had XP and it ran beautifully. But, you may be right.

TSL, could you be more specific? It could be some viruses. Vista is.... much slower. XP is simpler. you mean it runs at 1GHz when you play a game? or like anytime?

How big is your RAM?
