Mustaine only wrote a couple of the albums, but he was a pretty talented guy. too bad he was a huge drunk, which is why he was kicked out of the band. I'd say they're better with Hammett, cause he is a better guitarist overall

Honestly though I prefer Hammett as I don't really care for Mustaine's voice.
Really, I think that their older albums were better, and Mustaine now has his own band, Megadeth, in which he plays awesome guitar. Overall, I think they would be better if Mustaine was still their guitarist. Don't get me wrong, though, Hammet is an awesome guitarist. I just think that Dave Mustaine is better.
Kirk Hammett is way better than Mustaine. Mustaine's solos were always sloppy and still are. He always wanted to rush things in Metallica. Kirk's solos are more complex, powerful, and overall better. Dave was simply a waste of Metallica's time in my opinion. He was on drugs more than on stage thus why he got kicked out. Mustaine always preferred quantity over quality. He believed that hammering more notes would make a better sound...they don't. Kirk's style is an even balance. Kirk's guitar is also better than Mustaine's. ESP are pretty much the best guitars you can buy which also makes Kirk's sound a whole lot better.

I agree with 100% Mustaine was and is terrible in all categories. Singing, he's is an alright guitar player, but not better than Kirk by far, he fails epically at singing. Listen to Peace Sells by Megadeth rofl. I give Mustaine a -5 for effort.

Hammett doesn't write songs. Try playing Fade To Black on guitar and call it easy. Try to play The Day That Never Comes on guitar and call it easy. Both are talented guitarists, but Hammett has more style then Mustaine.
