First off, I already know there is thread like this out there, but this one is different.

There is so much destruction and sorrow in this world, and if we could just set aside our differences, we could grow and prosper as a big... uhhhh... worldwide community-thing.

So if you could stop all the fighting, would you? Why or why not?

LET THE DEBATING BEGIN!!!

Opinions are like assholes everybody has them, which means everybody is going to disagree which means an argument which then leads to war.

World peace would require some sort of Marxist Utopia outlined in the Communist Manifesto.

Peace is a lie, there can not be World Peace, even if you wanted to. There will allwese be someone out there trying to make a dessiase, trying to bomb a town, trying to kill someone. And what not. You should forget the idea of World Peace and think about the more important things. (Like Health Care, Social Secutery, and interior nation things)

Yes. Because government would fade into the distance, which is what we need.

For World Peace, borders would have to dissapear, as they are teh cause of many wars. Look at what we did in Africa, we split it up with imaginary lines without any regard for the different peoples and religions. We took what was once a peaceful society and divided it into thirds, where the people were seperated and thrust into a new "country" with other societies they had not interacted with and may have hated.

Goodbye borders, hello peace.

Let me rephrase that: Goodbye borders, goodbye war, hello domestic terrorism.

It's funny you say that because capitalism has given birth to economic globalization. And once all corporations are so involved in other countries and since all contries need each other so much, borders would merely disappear. Just like Marx said, almost exactly like he said, this will cause all nations to need to get involved or they would fail. Cuba and North Korea are not a part of economic globalization and they have absolutely terrible economies. Now if Marx's predictions come true even further, there will be massive revolts against capitalism once all of teh borders are erased and the people will be striving for a communal existance without the need of a government or a private business sector. But we'll just have to wait and see.

Read the communist manifesto.

Believe it or not I am going to. I already know quite a bit of it.

Even right wing nuts can be former commies >>.>>

Or course so long ago (5 or 6 years) I can't remember it much. At all in fact :P

there will never be "World Peace" And anyone who thinks it's possible has a very large imagination. Nobody can live under one currency, one language

You don't need to all live under one currency or one language for world peace? Who says for world peace we even need to be united into one large country? Infact that's how a lot of empires crumbled (Rome for example). As long as there is diplomacy and the ability to make treaties there is a shot for world peace someday.... never can be a long time so I'd watch the way you use that word.

Also I'd like to add that it use human's natural instinct to survive.... and in order to do that we are going to be more peacefull someday.

Human's natural instinct to survive and to get ahead is what has programmed all sane people nowadays to be greedy and selfish. Yes, it is very possible to become enlightened and have virtue just like in Buddhism. For most of us however, it's a cold world. Especially in capitalism since the entire system runs on greed.

If there was ever a common enemy, there is a possibilty that there would be world peace, but only for as long as that enemy is present. Phehaps not even that long.

Then you get into all that war is peace stuff...thats a load of BS if you ask me.

Sometimes people get to philisophical and lose touch with reality. War is peace to the guy who strokes his chin and sits around for 11 hours a day wondering if he is a man who had a dream that he was a butterfly, or a butterfly who is having a dream that he's a man.

For most people...war is war.

The people on the planet who aren't philosiphers and don't have the ability to sit around all day and think about the situation they find themselves in.

And yet, most people have to think about the sitioutain they are in on their feet. If you do not think about the situation, you can acheive nothing. Granted, not everybody has the time to sit around with a glass of cognac in their hand and think all day, but people can be their own philosophers.
