What is so great about it? Not trying to offend anyone, but give me one reason why I should pay attention to politics. It just seems like sides are constantly arguing over a subject.

If you're of the age to vote, it's important to pay attention to politics, because then you can learn which party to vote for, because that's how they'll be spending your tax dollars.

Other then that... I'm not entirely sure I would be inclined to know anything about politics. Also, if you don't give a damn about voting, you don't really have to either - but I would say that if you don't vote, you don't have a right to complain about the government =P

You've gotta know what side you're on. And like HD said, you'll have to pay attention to it if you plan to vote.

The arguing is the fun part. :P

Paying attention to politics is important so you know what is going on and so you know who and essentially what you are voting for.

But I just find it interesting, I cant really explain it, its like I could ask a person why they like football because I think its just boring.
Its really just a matter of opinion.

Anyway, one reason.
I will prully end up affecting you.

Women wanted to vote, they couldn't because they don't have the power to vote (one of the reasons why they couldn't vote)

they couldnt vote because one of the reasons they couldnt vote is because they couldn't vote.

nice logic

To answer the question, you should pay attention to politics because the way the country votes has an effect on who runs it. While you may only have one vote, discussing politics with those around you can make a big difference. Even if it doesn't matter that much to you, you should at least pay attention so you know what's going on.

We in the Western world are spoilt. I find the participation crisis occuring in my country right now sickening, when you consider there are people literally willing to put their lives on the line to get their vote. Iran being the obvious example.

Group conflict however is a primary social function. Politics is just a way of peacefully solving those disputes.

In American politics right now, or for the last few terms, it didn't matter who you voted for because both parties are completely corrupt. Both are out of control with power.

A book I recommend to everyone about it is called "Common Sense" by Glenn Beck. I know he's Fox News, but he hates both republicans and democrats.

Well you have to pay attention for the sheer fact that they can in all ways tell you what to do. Fortunately we can vote or revolt but whatever.

Personally I hate political parties and would love to see something passed to limit or do away with them, they make it impossible for any more than two people to be on the presidential ballot (or at least have a chance of winning) and very few people have all the same political opinions but people are forced too if they want any of their opinions to be heard.

It's not a matter of being forced to change your opinions, it's a matter of picking someone whose views aren't quite the same as yours. That's one of the downsides of our current system though. Both republicans and democrats are alot alike. Which you pick is more of a choice between the lesser of two evils.

I completely agree! I got into like a three hour debate with my sister because she thinks she can whine about it but shouldn't have to vote.

Anyway, back on topic. Politics makes the world work, Aristotle considered it the "master art" because it dictates what other arts can be persued. To this day it's still true. Because of politics you can't even speak an oppinion against the government in some countries without fear of being killed. The point is. All politicians and parties have their own views that can greatly impact your life. So if you're being given a chance to help get the best government into power you're doing yourself and your country a disservice by not making an educated decision.

People younger than 18 shouldn't get to vote in my opinion anyway. There are other ways young uns can get represented. Try writing to your local MP for instance, or attending some Q and A with your local representative. Over here in the UK anyone can go, regardless of age.

Age doesn't matter AT all, there's plenty of idiots over 18 that can vote, and plenty of intelligent people under that can't

Since there is no universally proven measure of intelligence, then under 18s should not be able to vote. Kids just don't have enough life experience to form an informed opinion on politics. You don't pay taxes, you don't have a job, and you'll probably vote the same way as your parents. Sounds like a pretty bad idea to me.

There are some people under 18 I know that are informed and responsible enough to make an informed decision. However, there are not enough who can to make a difference.

I know I should be able to vote even though I'm still a kid. I have a job, and I know enough about politics to make an informed decision unlike most other kids, they just go with whatever they see on TV.
