Lately there has been many people saying things similar to "Troll." "Hey this thread is spam! LOCK IT!" "Wow that was spam." and
Don't you realize that you are spamming when say these? You all act as though you follow the rules 100%, and never spam. You try to uphold the rules, and take care of the forums. Well guess what, taking care of the forums is not your job! That is for the mods!
If you see spam, flag it! If you see someone flaming or trolling, report it! There is no need to post, making statements that are obvious, and not your place. By making these statements, all that happens is the troll gets encouraged, and they argue with you. They win. Now if you were to report the troll to the mods, they would go in, lock the thread, and warn the troll, possibly even ban him. This would stop the problem. Mods have been given powers to handle those things, so let them take care of it. You should not pretend to be a mod, and call someone a troll, it wont do any good. And it is NOT your place.
As members what we should be doing is just posting in threads that deserve to be posted in, and stay away from threads that are bad. If you see a thread that is bad, don't bump it. Don't say "this thread should be locked." All the does is attract other members to the thread. Just give a mod a link to the thread. But you don't even have to do that. Guess why, because the mods know the rules better than any of us! Whether you believe it or not, mods are on at all times, maybe there is one hour out of the day without a mod on. And they do look through the forums. Mods see the threads that are made, they can handle the ones that need to be locked. Threads that need to be locked should not have posts by us in them. The only post that should be in a thread that is locked or inappropriate should be the moderators end statement.
And when you see spam, don't make statements saying "Wow, there has been a lot of spam." Want to know why? Because that statement is spam! Not only has it become a trend, but it has become extremely annoying. Half the time a member states in a thread "that was spam," They are wrong. Spam is an off topic post, not a discussion about the rules of the thread. Spam is a 1-7 word post, NOT a two paragraph post! If you see a spam post flag it. That way it will be taken care of. There is a reason that the flag option is there. It is not just some decoration. Know your place!
Maybe you will understand what I am trying to say.
Perhaps you should have put this in the S & S section or newbie section...
Sadly, you are 100% right. I have, myself, said a few times "This thread is a troll thread. This thread is a spam thread. Lock this" instead of going to a mod and asking them to lock it.
And even more sadly, I think only about 5% of the AG community use the flag option...
Although this is mostly true, you did repeat yourself a couple times.... But, I get where you are coming from and it's annoying, flag and move on... If it's excessive or offensive then report it to a mod on their page or through an instant messaging program.
You probably could have summed this up in a bit shorter of a post though, and it might get your point to whom it's directed at easier, because lets be serious, do you think most of them will want to or actually will read the whole thread?
Perhaps you should have put this in the S & S section or newbie section...
It put here due to the fact that more people visit this section, new members don't just stick to the Newcomers Forum. But yes, it could have gone there.
you did repeat yourself a couple times
"Repetition: Where a specific word, phrase, or structure is repeated several times, usually in close proximity, to emphasize a particular idea. "
And quite obviously most of the people who say these things wont read it, which is sad. But by them doing that, another point is proven. They just want easy posts.
If you agree with something, you know it, and don't have to agree. So don't go to a thread and say "yeah, I agree, you shouldn't do that" Don't criticize others on what you do yourself, and
Don't look at the twigs in the eyes of others, until you see the logs in your own.
I had recently seen someone insulting someone for posting their sheet incorrectly, when they had made a similar mistake themselves. (battleon RPG forum, not AG)
Is it bad to point out spam while you're making a response to an intelligent post or adding your own thoughts? I do that sometimes, but I don't randomly point out spam (at least I don't try to).

If it's not the point of your post, it can be okay. It's when people forget about the thread and focus on the bad posts that thing get out of hand.
Did anyone see the threads some silly guy made about me (to flame)? They were FILLED with people saying it was spam and trolling and whatnot. The threads amused me. The posts in them trying to point out the obvious made me want to slam my head into a wall.
So basically: Just stop doing it. I don't know how many times I've tried to make that point. People will continue to do it, and I will continue to get slightly pissed off every time. And most often delete the posts when I see them. Potentially ban people who keep doing it.
I find it funny how you're also ranting about what the mods are trying to get people not to do.
You're still just pointing out that people are spamming about spamming.
So basically, Mods tell everyone not to point it out like so, and they end up doing it anyways, and then you notice it, so you point out that they're pointing out the obvious. You're still complaining along with them, but in a way that the mods should be enforcing, not you. lulz.

Yes and apparently a troll always wins whenever somebody posts in their thread, no matter what, according to nemo. >_> nonono it's not like that. It's not like it's a flawless victory unless they have no replies at all.
Everyone's just confused because you guys are trying so hard to find the exact definition of a troll, spam, and flaming nowadays. I find it great how one person brings up a definition of each one of those things, then the next thing you know, someone else pops up with a bigger and badder definition believe they are so right.

No. I'm talking about how people need to stop acting like mods when they are clearly not.
You're still complaining along with them, but in a way that the mods should be enforcing, not you.
Well, if you saw, a mod agreed with the OP, and I am not enforcing it, I am trying to show the stupidity in it, for the posts frustrate everyone except those that do it. Which would explain why you don't think saying those things is bad.
It's not like it's a flawless victory unless they have no replies at all.
You couldn't be more wrong. Trolling is not fun unless you get responses. So if a troll gets completely ignored they don't find it fun, so they stop. Replying simply encourages them.
Ya, I try not to do that. But I sometimes say something along the lines of "This is a spam thread, try to avoid it in the future." I don't always get around to reporting it though. Just reporting it to a mod. is better though, because there's a "two for one deal" (as Strop would say) over there.
I am trying to show the stupidity in it, for the posts frustrate everyone except those that do it
And sorry, i didn't mean enforcing. That was the wrong word to choose from.
No matter which way you look at it, you're still just complaining about other people complaining.
Do you think you're all that much better by just watching the thread untill it's closed, and making a rant saying how the people that posted in it are foolish? You really are in the same boat tbh. Think about it. 3/4 of the people that posted in those threads have <50 posts, so they lack the experience to know any better anyway, so they probably don't even know what a troll is in the first place. Besides, why are you complaining if you can't do anything to stop it. Leave it to the mods?

Also, false. If they are a true troll they wont make some silly thread and just watch it all day. Half of the people that troll here don't know what they're doing anyway. The only legit thing i've seen here was that forum raid awhile back. That was pretty sick.
The best way to get rid of a real troll is to simply IPban. Thankfully, we don't get many of those.
