Yes, the Gov't does whatever they want to do even if the people of America say against it.
The US defense budget is 651 billion. The military's members are in the millions, three million to be specific. Three hundred thousand of these are in other countries.
By comparision, the Canadian Force has a budget of 20 billion C dollars and ninety thousand personnel.
Based primarily on numbers and budget alone as factors, crude but then again who has the most guns typically has an easier time, I would say the US would win any war pretty fast.

Missle defenses would run out quite quickly considering how many missles other contries have.
Only Russia has enough nuclear warheads to obliterate the US entirely. Without Russia, it would take quite a while for the rest of the world to destroy the US.

No single country with headed by a sane government wouldn't dare to fight against the US. As of now, there seems to be no one strong enough who wants to fight the US. The only other country with enough nuclear weapons to fight off the US would definitely fare badly if a nuclear war broke out.

Russia recently announced that it planned to fire 200,000 of it's officers and streamline it's forces. Though it's not as tough as it appears to be.
One interesting thing about a Canada and U.S. war is where it would be fought. Since there's no ocean between us, the fight would be right at the border most the time, and it could very well be fought in parts of the U.S. if Canada over powers us. We wouldn't be able to send many missiles to the border either, as it would hit our own cities.
Would canada even go to war? Fro past history, they sure arent very war people...they had like...100 canadians in ww2? Wasnt the french and indian war there only war? Could you even count that?
