If there were to be a nuclear war, do you think that the government would evacuate cities and send people to fallout shelters? Or would they just ensure the safety of political party members and people like the president and let everyone else die? Or would they ensure the safety of both?

Some History Channel facts.

*20 nukes could change the shape of Earth.

*The U.S. and Russia both have nukes ready to launch.

*If a nuke were launched, we'd only have 15 minutes to react.

*A nuclear war would most likely be caused by accident.

Aye, Russia! Are we friends?

Does the US government even have massive fallout shelters? If there weren't any, only those who were lucky or wealthy enough could have a good chance of survival.

Aye, Russia! Are we friends?

Aye. (Doesn't matter if I am Russian or not. The US is friends with Russia)

Just hit their launch pads first and you win! ^_^

US: *Launches missiles first*

Russia: *With little time to react, launches missiles soon after the US launches theirs*

US: Crap!

Without adequate measures or some way to counter the threat of warheads, launching your missiles first would do little. You would only get the first strike, and you have to expect the enemy to launch their missiles, destroying you in the process of you destroying them.

*A nuclear war would most likely be caused by accident.

True!

Nuclear war would be a devastating way to wage war. Unlike other forms of war, nuclear warfare can be compared to cheating in video games. Detonate and obliteration ensues.

There is not going to be a nuclear war because we have anti missile weapons now. The reason why the US has servived every war, is because there is a large ocean between everyone else.

That is true. Geography has a huge impact on who survives and who doesn't. Japan for instance was able to stay out of other peoples problems for a very long time before planes and such.

Also, the USA has missile defense systems that are pretty much unmatched. We have missile defense bases on the mainland, in Europe, on islands. . .the USA has missile defense bases all over the world, and they all work. A nuke probably wouldn't have the chance to cross the ocean.

And, we would be able to nuke them without them noticing, them having less than 15 minutes to react. We have 14 nuclear submarines called 'boomers.' They're all always on patrol across the oceans in secret locations, unless they need to return to port for whatever reason - and each one of these 14 boomers has 24 Trident II nuclear-armed missiles.

14 x 24 = 216.

We have 216 nuclear missiles hidden on 14 submarines which are constantly patrolling the oceans. And these nukes have the same range as a nuke launched from the ground - so we could strike anytime, anywhere, from almost any location.

Yep, the USA is prepared for anything that anyone can throw at them. Even if that means nucular missles.

Lol, I highly doubt the government would give a rat's ass about the people. The governors, the president, and his cabinet, as well as all other "necessary" staff would be shipped underground or somewhere equally safe.

The National Guard would probably be put on patrol in the major cities to make sure rioting and looting are kept to a minimum, and military bases would probably be evacuated as well, to make sure we have as many trained personnel as possible after impact.

I had a girl a while ago try to tell me that "a small-scale nuclear war with Iran and Afghanistan wouldn't be bad."

In my opinion, the only time nuclear war would be viable is when the other country doesn't have nukes.

Microfusion is something left to Fallout 3 for now. kthx.

. . .but it still wouldn't be small-scale, because then 'a few countries' would be glassed.

Nuclear war=huge scale destruction, you may attack a small country, but the destruction there will certainly be not small.

Exactly. Whoever that girl was needs to stop talking bullsh*t.

When you launch a nuke, you are guaranteed to have just destroyed your nation and the rest of the world. You need to understand something here. Once a country has lunched a nuke, there is no going back. You cannot just apologize to the demolished country and say oops.

You will have started the chain of events that would lead to the world's total destruction. Countries would be blow each other to complete rubble, many innocent men, women and children would be killed for no reason at all. A war with guns is a better war then a war with nukes.

And when the sh*t hit's the fan, the people who think the government will come supplying each household it's own fallout shelter are dead wrong. Do you know how much money that would cost? Like someone said, the only people who'd be safe are the president and below. No one but the government's highest officials would be safe.

And once more, after the nukes have been shot, you can't just come out of hiding and act as if nothing happened. Radiation will kill you if you already are not dead. Plant life will die out for years on end.

Welcome to the end of the frigging world people!

(Sorry, I just hate when people think nukes are okey as long as it's their country attacking someone else and when they are blinded by their own failures to see the 'whole' picture.

I have to add something even if you find a fallout shelter and you survive from radiation and everything, you can't leave for ever you will not have unlimited resources, it's not like movies, if everything above ground dies, you can't survive nowhere.

Yes, another good fact. Fact people! I hate when people base their plans off of a Hollywood movie. I mean really? Do you really think somewhere out there someone is going to be waiting to give you food and water once you get out?

There are just so many 'negatives' about the Nuclear war then there are 'ositives'.
