What do you think about Sears tower being renamed Willis Tower?

I think it was really stupid, because everyone knows it as Sears Tower. When people go through Chicago and see that skyscraper they will say something like "Hey look, there's Sears Tower!". It's also stupid because as Sears Tower it used to have a world record.

I don't it matters. Even if they "officially" change the name people may still call it sears tower. The "30 St Mary Axe" in London is almost unversally known as "The Gherkin".

Well, it's gonna happen, maybe Chicago needs money or something, it sucks but it's gonna happen.

Ya Pixie your probably right. But then what was the point of changing the name if no one will use it?

Well Sears lost the naming rights in 2003. It is only now that Willis have bought those rights. So it is just an "official" name for the Willis group to feel good about themselves. What it is called isn't overly important to most people.

They'll use it, maybe just the owners of the tower, and the people that work their.

It will probably be called Sears Tower for a very long time but eventually people will start calling it Willis tower. They really shouldn't have changed it though, count on the Brits to mess up a U.S. landmark.

It wasn't the Brit's, They just bought it, someone in Chicago put it up for sale. So really it's Chicago's fault.

They could have kept it as Sears Tower though. Chicago put office space up for sale, and whoever owns the most square footage gets to rename the building whatever they like.

It was a British company, by the way.

Exactly. The British get to rename it since they bought it, so it's not really their fault.

But it's a landmark for us, so it's kind of rude to treat it like any other building and rename it. If they wanted their name on something they should have picked a building that's not a landmark.

Well what are they going to buy? I would but the Sears Tower, anyway, I didn't like that it was named after a company. Because it's in a large city, a large building, and it's a office building. So it was a good choice.
