I have macromedia flash 8. I realize adobe flash CS3 is basically a newer version my question is since I already own macromedia flash 8 should I buy adobe flash CS3? Is it worth it?

Well if you're a programmer there is a huge difference between them due to the fact CS3 supports Actionscript 3.0 - which I would recommend over actionscript 2.0. But if programming isn't as big of a deal to you then there really isn't any major difference between them that would be worth the money.

Another option is to continue to use Flash 8 to create your art assets, but use FlashDevelop and the Flex SDK (both free) for the AS3 code. You just embed the art into the code and compile everything from within FlashDevelop.
