I think it might benefit everyone who has posted in this topic if the original poster might inform us of what country he is living in?

Most likely la la land, but it could also be the United States.

well the country someone comes from is not important, for defining what patriotism actually means.

it is true though that in different societies it is used differently and also judged differently.
there are countries where being patriotic is very important and other where it is almost condemed to call oneself patriotic

We're not defining patriotism. We're answering the question of whether or not atheism is unpatriotic. Since patriotism is defined as love for or devotion to one's country (according to [url=http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/patriotism]) it is necessary to know which country said person is showing their love and/or devotion for.

I don't see how not believing in god, unless you live in a theocracy, is unpatriotic. That just doesn't make any sense.

God in the Pledge

the under god in the pledge of allegiance was not there until 1954. i am no expert on american history, but i guess that by then G.Washington and all the guys from the war of independance were dead and there was no thread of a riot.

it was added for political reasons.

Hmmmmm well it didn't bother many people then and it really shouldn't bother anyone now.

yeah right, we should never change anything because it worked some time long ago.
thats a great attitude. and since i remember in the us the church and state are seperated, so how can it be tolerated, that children at school are obliged to say the pledge

No, because Patriots believe in the founding fathers principles, and one of the biggest ones is suppression is wrong. That's why your allowed to be an Atheist. (But that does not mean people won't try to convert you).

They aren't obliged to say it out loud they are required to stand up, at least out of respect. Plus its different all around the country.

But can you imagien what it represents???
Atheists, compelled to stand up, even for fake, and watch a guy discouring the oath of allegiance....??
No one should ever be compelled to fake his beliefs...
Imagine you, in an atheist country, forced to stand up and say: "There is no God, religion is ajoke"...would you like that?
Don't ever say it's not a problem or it's not serious...
It's no longer a democracy if you have to fake your beliefs...
