K' I'm doing a small poll on socialism here are the questions:
1. On a scale from 0-10; 0 being communism and 10 being capitalism; where does socialism fall?
2. Considering the economical climate of the U.S. and a large majority of Europe, should these countries adopt a more socialistic approach to help the economy?
For Democrat, that would be the CANADIAN New Democratic Party, which I think is MORE Socialist then the American one. So the American one is probably equivalent to our Liberal party.
Here's a pic I found with the slightly more ?realistic? political spectrum. It has up and down as well as left to right...but I dont know if it's any better.
Well there is a point where you could say "Ok, that country isn't socialist..." America has government regulations, public schools, public parks, public libraries and welfare. But it's not a socialist nation. However, those terms I listed are socialistic and a socialist nation wouldn't be quite socialist without them. This only means that America is not a purely capitalist country, but still quite capitalist.
But you don't seem to notice that America is becoming more and more socialist under Obama. We're not quite there yet, but if all his bills pass then we could be.

America isn't going to become socialist in the time of 4 years, it's impossible with the general attitude of the people. Being socialism = evil, of course. But even if it did become socialist I don't see the problem with that.
(Obama isn't socialist, by the way. He's just a bit further left than some U.S. Democrats.)
Even if all three of those industries were nationalized entirely the U.S. would still be capitalist. A country doesn't turn socialist when one industry is nationalized.

I agree, if GM was under state control then so what? That may be socialist but it's not making the whole nation be categorized as socialist. Now if the tax payers controlled all U.S. car companies, oil companies, electricity, health care and the government used protectionism that would be a true socialist country. ( You could still have a private retail sector under socialism by the way! )
