in case you dont know, cash for clunkers is a goverment run company that pays cash for old crappy cars. but, apparently, if you open a cash for clunkers email or visit their website, you are giving the government "permission" to search your computer. now im the last person to buy into conspiracy theories but with obama in charge im not so sure anymore. so id like the opions of the AG users. is the government using cash for clunkers to spy on americans? (oh, btw, this was either on fox news or cnn. you know, big news companies, not hipies or hobos or sumtin like that)

Its written in the Patriot Act. yes it was the bush administration. its still a law.

Ah, okay.

as you said by yourself the governement monitors everyone.

I later said everything public. And just because the government can search people's homes or computers without informing them doesn't mean they're constantly watching everything.

well it can.

Contextually, it can't, unless you have something illegal to hide. I have nothing to hide - so the government searching my computer won't damage me, especially if they don't inform me. Why? Because I would never know.

Ya it's kinda crappy that they could. But I feel like since I have nothing to hide, I'm fine with them watching the rest of you to protect me

http://www.aclu.org/privacy/spying/watchlistcounter.html

heres a link.
over a million people in america are on a terrorist watch list, which is founded upon the search schemes that take place since the patriot act has been legal.
a lot of citizens have therefore when travelling and even were close to losing their job.

its the fastest i could provide, and the possibilietes are even bigger

link is broken

Whats wrong with putting people on a watch list? Its obvious if someone is searching "How do I blow up my highschool?" that they will be put on a watchlist. (as is probably happening with me right now ) I don't have a problem with that. If you are crazy and need to be watched, then I'd be happy with having someone watch you.

the thing is you are put on that kind of lists for multiple reasons, often simply because of your ethnic background.
so yeah i think it is wrong.
and as the source behind the broken link arguments. if you watch a million random people it is mor difficult to find the real criminals, instead a small watch lists with real threads makes more sense.

They can do that with just about every goverment run site there is, and sometimes even non goverment sites.

Yeah. If you've ever accessed a .gov site, or sent e-mails to a government employee, including your spouse/parent/guardian, the government already has an eye on you.

You leave a mark on their radar, you might say.

I think that it is wrong in its own right.
