So do you guys remember the old ArmorWiki site? Well I was thinking lately of taking the site back up and finally give it a real purpose as a true Wiki reference site to everything related to Armor Games. So basically I have a couple problems with some of access to information in AG. Basically alot of developers have made blogs and forums where they sometimes give information out that they would not tell people on AG and the Armor Blog, such as when The Last Stand 3 was announced, and when Krin gave his first previews of Sonny 2. Even then some people don't keep up with the Armor Blog either. Thats the first thing I want to tackle. The second thing is the Game Walkthroughs and threads about game codes that at times flood the forums. Well I had an idea of taking my old ArmorWiki site that I made with DirkPitt(I really wonder what happened to that guy) and basically have a single source of news to update people when the developers have made announcements on their sites, or the blog(of course mainly giving links to things and giving summaries of what was announced), and on top of that also possibly get people to submit their games codes there, or post all the good quality game guides there from the Game Walkthroughs forum(if permission is necessary then I will see what I can do in that case) These are just the basics, as I also had some other ideas like possibly taking the ideas of the Armor Games News threads, and making a larger scale weekly news paper with news concerning things going on in the community, like when a new official competition has begun, and possibly do some interviews of people who are doing something important within the site once in a while(like starting a great story/competition like if we were already doing this I might try to interview Strop concerning the Way of Moderation Competition instead of just asking him random questions about himself for no reason) If a new option is added not everyone goes to the Support and Suggestions section to see them, and so if this site became popular it could be used to spread the word about these things(such as new armatars or things made by regular members like the AG Toolbar and AG Search Engine that come out in the future) These are all just a few ideas that have popped into my head concerning a renewed Armor Wiki.

Now for the purpose of this thread, and that is to ask if people would be interested in this idea and if any of you guys have any other ideas for a AG universal resource of info and updates. The reason being is that I don't want to work on something if no one likes the idea, and want to see if anyone else can come up with some interesting ideas for it if I do go through with it.(As a note I would probably need a bit of help with it though)

Alright Crimson, look, there is a reason that developers put things in their forums first, and thats because there are less people, and well its their forum. When Krin announced Colony on his site, and in the armor blog, there was a reason that he didn't want it in this forum. He didn't want to many beta testers, which would cause the game to crash. But by using the RSS feed, you didn't know that, so you made a thread in the forum anyway. Which totally defeated the purpose of him not announcing it here. He stated in the email "Do not make any threads about it." If a developer wants to let AG know something they will post something, You should not be snooping around to release information for them, they have a reason for keeping it semi-confidential.

So even if you do bring the armorwiki back, don't have pre-release information on it. If the members of AG want to know something, they can join the developers site.

Heres the thing. When a game developer keeps certain information in their blog or forum that they don't share with other forums, there is a good reason for that. Don't make a site and put information up that is supposed to be limited to a particular forum and blog.

Krin told the beta testers not to post anything about colony in the forums during beta. If you would have posted the news on colony in the armorwiki, it would have basicly been the same thing.

The whole armorwiki idea sounds funny anyway. Forums are forums, there isn't much to say about them. There are a few competitions but nothing is updated regularly.

Hey thats why I wanted to ask first to see if people would find a reason why it simply wouldn't work very well. You make an interesting fact here, but my concern is not as much concerning Colony(I didn't pre-release info anyways I just tried to notify people of an Armor Blog entry which is public but not checked very much) but things that people keep asking about on the forums like when people kept asking on the forums as to whether The Last Stand 3 was in the making. Of course even then it probably wouldn't work too well since they would need to check another site besides AG anyways which is the annoying part. I will have to think this over of course and even then I still want to know what people think of some of the other ideas.

Hmm, you could always just simply put it up as an actual wiki. Information about some of the more prominent users, games, moderators?
BBC too, there have been a few guides, they would be useful too.
Stuff that is usually stickied, or is divided into different threads, everything like that.
I agree, though. There are things to keep out of the wiki, at least for some time. We are more polite than wikipedia anyway, when it comes to information.

or post all the good quality game guides there from the Game Walkthroughs forum

That's a good idea. The walk through section here has so many walk throughs that you can never know which ones are good. It would be nice to have a place where all the best are collected.

I also like the newspaper idea. And possibly you could get Bretttrompour to help you make a real news paper, keep people up to date with the real news. It would work better there than it does here anyway.

Aside from what others have stated, developers don't want their information all over the internet before they're ready, it's a nice idea. It could be useful.

I would not agree with that completely, but I guess we have different views.

Yeah I kinda got that by this point. If someone announces a BETA or something that is supposed to stay small then of course that would not be put on the site.

Those were a couple of other ideas I had. Some of this info is actually already on the current existing site.

armorwiki was dumb.

Honestly I kinda feared bringing back up this site because of stuff like that. The Armor Wiki originally got off track trying to add stuff to do instead of thinking of what the site should focus on or if it had a purpose or not.

developers don't want their information all over the internet before they're ready

Well all I really plan on doing is linking to the places where they announced these things, like I would do so within the forums answering a thread about a upcoming flash game. This isn't as much of an issue as it used to be, but if it is really that much of an unpopular idea then I will not do it.

That is basicly the same thing as posting links to the content directly.

I wouldn't mind helping you with this. You could pretty much just create one with FAQs on Armor Games and such.

You could probably create a free one at a site like this, not too sure where you had your wiki before.

I remember the old ArmorWiki, I joined it. I really didn't like it because it served no real purpose. Most people used it for the chatroom (which wasn't that great anyway) and it provided general knowledge things that could be found here on ArmorGames, such as links to the top ten games list, or it provided things that weren't even related to AG, such as random song playlists and youtube videos.

I honestly don't see what kinds of things you could put on the wiki. If they are things that are keeping you up to date on events and such, they will probably be posted here on AG anyway.

Basically, I won't join the Wiki unless it goes in a drastically different direction. Even then, most of the information posted will most likely be able to be found here.
