Now you're probably opening this thinking "oh great another rant on religion", well you're right. But please keep reading on because what I have to say is important and applies to all beliefs, even if you don't have one.
Many religions now believe the world is going to end, soon. Basically they believe this because of "signs" and their precious magic books. Well the scary thing is the world could end soon, and religion could actually be its cause. The fact is, for the world to live on religion must die. Faith is nothing to brag about it, and people who accept faith, or preach it are just intellectual slaveholders. Religion has caused so much craziness and destruction and I think 9/11 is a great example, however I won't get into it much because of everything else I have to say.
Now, why is religion so powerful? Because it allows people who DON'T have the answer to what happens when we die to think they do. If you're a christian or any other religion you may think it's great to say "PLEASE GOD I'M WILLING! I'LL DO ANYTHING YOU ASK OF ME!" Well guess what, there are no gods talking to us so that void is filled in by corrupt and often hostile people.
This is why anti-religious rationalists must come out of the freakin closet and let themselves be heard. And for those of you who only consider yourselves "a little religious", is the safe feeling of believing in a religion worth the pain and destruction it causes? If you belonged to a social group that wasn't a religion that involved so much bigotry, homophobia, violence, and ignorance as religions you would quit the club and protest against it. And if the end of the world comes because of nuclear arms led by religious nut jobs... just remember what the true problem was. We found a way to end lives on a mass scale before we stopped wishing for it.
ok then you describe them for me? describe the talking snake, and the man who lived inside a giant fish for me? explain how those arent just fairy tales, and if when you were a kid if religion and other fairy tales got switched around would you have believed it? if jack and the beanstalk was in the bible?
the only reason they're believable is because people get scared into thinking if you dont believe it you'll go to hell.

But I would like to say that there have been points in my life when I considered that there was no God, then I realized some things and got some of my questions answered. in the end I think im stronger for it, and proud that I was able to come back to faith.

the point is you're lashing out at liutenant's credibility and are extremely biased towards one side. you shouldn't expect people to agree in a debate. aaaaannd this was about evil due to extremists and terrorists.

I do have to say that Islam and christianity are accounted for the most blood shed in the history of the world. But I am chatholic, well kinda, I have to see it to belive it. I'm a catholic that belives in evolution. I just hope that there is a God out there and really a place as peaceful as heavan. Really religion makes you feel safe, just like one favorite bands Pasadena say in one there songs,"Everybody wants to go to heavan but nobody wants to die".
and i'm not trying to convince people "OH THERE'S NO GOD IDIOTS" I'm just saying that religion is a bad and corrupt thing, which it is.... if I end up converting some people to rationalists (notice I didn't say atheist), well that's just a bonus
Because I hate seeing people kill each other over it! Look at the 100 year crusades... or the war in the middle east, the only reason it started with us is because of religious nut jobs. Or how about the "holy land" Jerusalem, being fought over for hundreds of years.

I actually read the whole thing and a few comments, and I agree with you, if it weren't for religion the world would probably be better and it is possible people wouldn't fight nearly as much. And also for you people that think he's atheist, why don't you actually look up what atheist means, some of you calling him an atheist are actually referring to satanist
Actually that is exactly what you are, i just couldnt remember the word before. You are that because you are saying that religion is bad, evil, and completely wrong. Those are the things that satin, a fallen angel (kinda like you because you left the church) believes and trys to force onto other people.
You know what? You contradict yourself so much you can hardly cal yourself figured out. You have absolutely no f*cking proof that God doesn't exist or if he does so back off.
You don't have any f*cking proof that any god DOES exist and you said that, so why would you be debating over this topic? And that has nearly nothing to do with Lieutenut's first post, This is based off religion, and not every single religion believes in any god, for example SATANISTS, they don't believe in Satan as a god BECAUSE THEY DON'T BELIEVE THE EXISTANCE OF THEM
