Now you're probably opening this thinking "oh great another rant on religion", well you're right. But please keep reading on because what I have to say is important and applies to all beliefs, even if you don't have one.
Many religions now believe the world is going to end, soon. Basically they believe this because of "signs" and their precious magic books. Well the scary thing is the world could end soon, and religion could actually be its cause. The fact is, for the world to live on religion must die. Faith is nothing to brag about it, and people who accept faith, or preach it are just intellectual slaveholders. Religion has caused so much craziness and destruction and I think 9/11 is a great example, however I won't get into it much because of everything else I have to say.
Now, why is religion so powerful? Because it allows people who DON'T have the answer to what happens when we die to think they do. If you're a christian or any other religion you may think it's great to say "PLEASE GOD I'M WILLING! I'LL DO ANYTHING YOU ASK OF ME!" Well guess what, there are no gods talking to us so that void is filled in by corrupt and often hostile people.
This is why anti-religious rationalists must come out of the freakin closet and let themselves be heard. And for those of you who only consider yourselves "a little religious", is the safe feeling of believing in a religion worth the pain and destruction it causes? If you belonged to a social group that wasn't a religion that involved so much bigotry, homophobia, violence, and ignorance as religions you would quit the club and protest against it. And if the end of the world comes because of nuclear arms led by religious nut jobs... just remember what the true problem was. We found a way to end lives on a mass scale before we stopped wishing for it.
Yes because all religious leaders have nukes :P face it that makes no sense and only extremists would do that. I guess the whole do unto others as you would do unto yourself isnt being applied here?
did you read the first post on the first page mrmonkey3?
also, there are wars being fought because of religion as we speak... the fight for the holy land is one of them. ever hear of the 100 year war? war over religion. All I said is that it could happen in this century because it wouldn't be that much of a stretch considering what religion has already caused.
And I honestly think you are going to get the living s*it kiked out of you if you say the things you are saying right now out loud to other people in real life, I guarantee it.
Lol, I go to a pretty liberal school, and everyone I know that would actually care are either pussies or couldn't do anything about it =/
Dude the world isn't going to just give up their beliefs and become perfect, no one is going to throw down what they believe in because of what you think. Its not going to happen, just accept the fact that religion will be here for our lifetime and our grandkid's lifetime. Just accept the fact and move on.
I have hope for the future, I think atheism... or atleast rationalism is a growing trend... The longest it will take for non-religious people to be the majority in the world will be 150 years I think, obviously I won't be alive by then and I'm ok with that.... I don't think I ever said I wasn't =/
I'm sure religion will last longer then that, we are a very primitive society no matter how intelligent we are.
Same I just said I think the majority will be non-religious in 150 years or so... As for no religion what-so-ever I could never try to guess... and going back to you saying someone will beat my ass because of my beliefs I'd just like to say.... yeah.... that's what Jesus would do
You misunderstand I did NOT say wars werent fought because of religion but tell me what religious leader has nukes?
ohh ok, well i'm sure it wouldn't be that hard to pull off, I mean look how many countries have nuclear arms now after about 60 or 70 years of just the USA having them.
Ya, I was just being sarcastic to point out that if a christian was to attack me because of what I say that would probably being one of the worst examples of a christian possible lol.
I'm sure religion will last longer then that, we are a very primitive society no matter how intelligent we are.
I kinda came in late in this discussion, but I'll say my peace:
@ Kirby: Very well said. Mankind has always wondered why he was placed on Earth, and what will happen when we die. Because science can not answer these, people turn to religion. Religion is not evil lieutenut. It changes people for the better, and it attempts to fill in life's biggest mysteries. Granted there are flaws with it( extremists and people who use it to gain political power) But hey! What have humans made that was perfect? We are flawed and everything we created is flawed. Sorry for the Pessimism, but that's just the way I see it.
