So the UK's pirate party is an official political party as of the 11th of August and I just wanted to share with you guys there 3 main policys of the party

We want to legalise non-commercial file sharing and reduce the excessive length of copyright protection, while ensuring that when creative works are sold, it's the artists who benefit, not monopoly rights holders. We want a patent system that doesn't stifle innovation or make life saving drugs so expensive that patients die.
⢠End the excessive surveillance, profiling, tracking and monitoring of innocent people by Government and big businesses.
⢠Ensure that everyone has real freedom of speech and real freedom to enjoy and participate in our shared culture."
These are there core policy not their only ones so want to know what you think about their policies and about them.
I hope you guys liked all your favorite bands. They won't be around for much longer.

We are treated like criminals when we share entertainment digitally, even though this is the modern equivalent of lending a book or a DVD to a friend.
Yeah. Lending it, permanently, only you don't lose your own copy while they're using it.... and they can also lend it to as many other people as they want. Riiiiiight.
Each citizen must be guaranteed the right to anonymity which is inherent to our freedoms.
I'm not sure where that's coming from. The right to privacy in an environment that is private is different from anonymity.
We believe that DRM should not be allowed to remove or restrict in any way a person's fair use rights, and that people should have the right to remove DRM whenever it does.
That's fair, and I support it - but I think their definition of 'fair use' is highly skewed.

These sections in the manifesto were completely blank. That's... just a joke if you actually want to be taken seriously as a party that could run the country. You *need* to have a platform on important issues.
I don't think they'll see a lot of public support, and doubtlessly they'll receive very little private support from companies, as the legislation they're interested in introducing would have a negative economic impact on said companies.

I think they're absolutely right - there does need to be some bend & legislation reform to how digital media operates on the internet, because as it stands, there isn't really... much legislation at all - and the legislation that's getting pushed through is pretty much being funded by lobbies which purely support the interests of the companies with the rights to the media. They should have a say in that legislation formation - absolutely; however, I don't think either side of the extreme is... good.
And definitely - it's a cool topic to discuss... if sinopoli32 stops being a retard....

I remember that first piracy political organization was formed in Scandinavia some time ago. I read an article in computer magazine about it. Don't know what happened to them. So this is not the first time pirates tried to organize themselves.
